We've been working with Walser Toyota in Bloomington, MN to get our Prius. We decided on the Magnetic Gray, PKG 6. After a few days of trying to acquire from another dealer through a trade, our sales guy suggested we wait for their next allotment which would come in mid-May(Is that common, to say let's wait and see if your car comes with our next allotment?). I figured there's equal chance of not getting the car if we wait to find out what's alloted to them. I suggested why not place an order for the car so we know for sure that we'll get our color and package. So today he emailed and said the order was in and the waiting game begins. Any idea on what the average wait is for the color of Prius you want? I understand the need to exercise patience but after driving the Prius we fell in love with it. I'd appreciate hearing any experiences around getting the Prius you wanted and how long the process was. We could go to a dealer where the Mag. Gray shows up on the new car inventory but I've had really good experience with Walser in the past and would prefer to get it from them. Plus, I would get all my service done at Walser.

    Thanks.

Well, I am NO GOOD at playing the waiting game :D When I want something and get my mind set on it, I cannot wait,, It just kills me,,,

So, I really wanted the Seaside Pearl color in Package 2 and the dealer did not have one, said it would be 4-6 week wait,,,:eek::eek:

I said H*LL NO, I will take what you have in stock, and they had the light silver and the Driftwood Pearl in the package I wanted, so I took the Driftwood Pearl, and I am very very happy with it, so overall, it worked out well,,

But that is just me, I cannot wait,,,,, never have been able to,, after taking the Prius for a test drive about 4 weeks ago, my mind was set on getting it NOW instead of waiting till next year..

I hope you don't have to wait too long,,,,

I ended up having to wait 2 weeks when I finally decided what I wanted, exactly like you want, Magnetic Grey package 6, very happy with the car so far, and I will wait for what I want. Now having said that, your best bet is to get one you can find, especially at the end of the model year, like now.

Did you order your Prius and wait two weeks or did you wait for the next dealer "allotment"?

It doesn't sound like one is within 50 miles or being delivered to within 50 miles within the next few weeks or you'd be driving it already or have a signed contract.

What their doing sounds weird, when I looked for mine one dealer had an exact list of what they were getting with vin numbers and I had an option to put a deposit on one of them and wait 4 weeks for it without any doubt on whether or not I was getting it.

A car dealer managing millions of dollars of inventory has to know a certain amount of time in advance exactly what their getting, anything on its way to the US has a destination or will have a destination by the time it gets here.

If I were you I'd expand the search.

I ordered, was supposed to come in the week of my order, they found one at the "Port" that they could add to their weekly shipment, but on the way some how, I think it might have been due to the time of day I ordered and the time they entered it into the "Port" database, another dealer got that Prius. Waited another week, as they claimed they found another one, and that one came in.

Dealers get allotments by the Port, but they can claim some cars that are waiting at the port, and they can also do dealer trades, mine was definitely "Port", had 6 miles on it, but the car was originally destined for Little Rock, Arkansas, so my dealer was able to get it before them.

What you're experiencing sounds like what I am going through right now. About 5 weeks ago I checked to see what the nearest Toyota dealer had for Prius's. They didn't have any on the lot, but the saleslady said they had a black one coming in soon. Well, I wanted a spectra blue package 5. They said they could try to do a trade with the black one, but they couldn't find the one I wanted.

Then she said they would be allocated 4 or 5 Prius's on April 1 and if they got the one I wanted, it would only be a few weeks after that for it to be delivered to me. But, of course, that didn't work out. So they put in an order for mine. She said the order for my car has been picked up (whatever that means) and they are supposed to have more info for me on May 2 on when it will be coming in. So I'm still impatiently waiting to find out if I'm actually getting the Prius I want or if I'll have to settle for a different color or package. It can be frustrating. But maybe in a week I'll know for sure if I'm getting my car!

Yep, that sounds like what I'm experiencing. I had to push the salesguy to order it rather than "wait and see" if they get it with the next allotment. That just made no sense to me. And, now it's just a waiting game.

The salesguy was very knowledgeable about the Prius and answered a lot of our questions but I would really like to just close the deal. It's really tough being patient when you fall in love - and we're in love with the Prius.

So, I laid out the scenarios like this and he has yet to respond:

    1. Order placed, received within a month
    2. Other dealers get new inventory and now willing to trade
    3. They see an inbound magnetic grey and reserve for us
    4. They're able to see what's coming into the port and claim it

What I have been unable to confirm is whether by placing the order that will impact our ability to get the car should it come in earlier with their next allotment.

I suppose I'm just a typical Gen X'er wanting it now!!
