10,000 Miles: Broken In Yet?

    I just passed 10,000 miles this weekend, and I'm wondering whether I can consider my Prius officially broken-in.

    It's been a wonderful ride. I don't think I'd change much, though I miss auto-on headlights and heated, multi-adjustable seats with lumbar support, and I'd really like a built-in, through-the-system manager for my iPod.

    Otherwise, I couldn't ask for a better car. I love the electronic gadgets, the interior space, the "tight" construction of the car, and . . . and . . .

    High MPGs and Low Pollution!!!

    Lifetime MPG: 49.9 for 10,247 miles (MFD readings). Gas costs per mile: $0.064.

    For those old veterans out there: Have I now hit my stride? Will I see anything improve? Will I see anything deteriorate?

    For those new and old contributors to PriusChat: Thank you for the immeasurable value you've added to my understanding and enjoyment of this fabulous automobile!!!

    Theres always room for improvement... however that depends on how liable you are to get shot for not accelerating fast enough...

    Yea, you should be pretty well broken in. There'll be minor improvements moving forward, but it gets hard to know if it's from improved familiarity with the car or actual break in.

    I suppose the question should be: Which is more easily "broken-in", the car or the driver?

    I think I am still learning how best to drive the car. Managing speed and MPG max in rolling hills is a fun exercise, but doing it so as not to drive other folks nuts is the trick. I do not want to create havoc for one driver, much less a whole line of people, so I keep an eye out for approaching traffic (from behind) to see how far I can let the car go in speed variation (up or down).

    Thinking about it now, I can't recall having this much fun learning about a car. The novelties seem to have worn off earlier on other cars (except for that '69 Camero Rally Sport).
