This 'tampon' has the best aerodynamics number in its class.
Just show them the gas bill next time, end of discussion.

    Lol, I like that line.

But I, for one, have always thought s/he was the prettiest.

When I first saw a Prius in person I said it was the ugliest car I'd ever seen on the road. Except for maybe the aztec. A few yrs later, after I've bought one, I still say it's the ugliest car on the road.

Like I told my wife, the car could be hot pink with a Bush Cheney bumper sticker, and I wouldn't care as long as it gets me from A to B @ 50mpg.

It would be a bit grosser if you were driving a red Prius... and you had a long cord on your EBH. :bowl:

I always tell people that it looks a lot better from the inside.

When "they" tell you how ugly (or slow, etc) the Prius is, just think to yourself that eventually some of "them" will be driving one too. It might take another $.50 rise in the gas price, but it will happen.

Do people actually tell you that they think your car is ugly? No one has ever said anything like that to me.

If anyone did say anything I would say "Okay" and walk away. No other response is needed.

    I have a red Prius!!

Yes, I agree. They ARE ugly. I still think so. But for the mileage, I'd drive one bright pink with an Obama bumper sticker.

    It's practical. That's all I care about.

Yes, in fact this weekend I had someone say that he thought it was ugly, even though he had rented one and was very impressed otherwise. His wife wants to buy one because she is commuting in a SUV.

Some of my coworkers think its ugly too as I did initially when it first came on the market in 2004. I actually think the Classic Prius is better looking but it does not have enough headroom for me (a former coworker had one).

I think that some people find the Prius ugly because it has a long length to width ratio. However the design is very functional and I really don't care if others think it is ugly.

Our other car is a 2001 Avalon, which is kind of ugly too IMO. But that car has great legroom, especially in the rear. We nicknamed it the Boxer, because it is similar to those dogs which are kind of homely, but are really good dogs.

I don’t know, I think it’s important to remember that beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder. Almost everyone I’ve seen posting around here regularly is from North America. Yes, there are exceptions, I know….

With that background it’s important to remember that the archetypes of automotive beauty that we likely subscribe to aren’t necessarily based on function. Instead, they likely evolved from rather form based ideas/concepts that likely date from 1950’s.

On the other hand, the physical appearance of the Prius is highly influenced by it’s function. Concessions to stylized form only seem to have been made when they didn’t interfere with the function.

Maybe that makes the car “ugly†to some. I personally think it gives the Prius a rather calming Zen quality, but then I guess I’ve always been partial to simply functional things as opposed to overly flashy decorative things.

There really is irony in the fact that some of those people who are deriding you and your car will wind up driving one, sooner or later.

    Personally, I think that they’re just jealous….

    I agree with DWDEAN above

I originally purchased my first 05 Prius in 04 it was for an entirely different reason not to save energy or the environment. My physical disability Compromises my own mobility and range of motion and the fact that my wife and I need to carry a wheelchair personal accessories and luggage As well as the only car that I could comfortably fit in, sit in or get in thanks to the spacious Hatch back design. And normal Height.

My family and friends were very weary of the performance, Reliability and safety of that new car I sometimes felt like they told me to get a horse

The Prius form Had to follow my function !!! And what I do think this engineering miracle it’s absolutely beautiful I Liked it so much I updated to an 07 And everything that comes with it has been a bargain.

PS I wonder what the Prius thinks How we look???

Sorry guys, I have to disagree with most of you! I believe the Prius is one of the best-looking cars out there. It looks great in white, although the red and the new blue are close seconds! Sort of like a tall Countach--the best-looking car ever built.

    Per,

Like I said, it's in the eye of the beholder. I'm rather partial to the blue, and no I don't think it's a Doppler shift thing....

Interesting comparison to the Countach, I'd never thought to compare the design to a Lamborghini. I guess that there are similarities. I don't know that they're closely related, but they're certainly cousins. But then again, the Prius always has had spectacular aerodynamics.

I wonder if that's were the inspiration for the vertical door lift kits came from.
