Well we had to take my work truck into the dealer and had In-Laws staying this weekend so we rented a Prius.
We have had it now for three days and LOVE IT!!!! it is a base Prius it does not have the SKS nor the back up camera, it only had 690mi on it when we got it. So far we have driven it over 330miles and it is averaging 47.7mpg:D we are really really enjoying the car.
I can honestly say I don't mind the non-touring it handles just fine (compared to our trucks) and we love watching the gas stations go by:p
Anyway the Prius is great and we are really looking forward to having our own.

Glad you liked it and a rental no less, nice.

It's fun passing the gas stations full of people filling up, especially passing the people who drove like demons to get one car ahead of me, only to dash into the next gas station.

For those people and others like them filling up, I usually honk repeatedly and wave as I silently pass them.

Driving A Prius is a lot like being a Baptist. You sure can raise hell; but nobody is gonna hear about it.

Silent is nice. Even the engine sounds quiet from outside. With proper tires and driving practices you can be safer and save lots of money.

I save over $400 a month in gas I didnt buy. My wife buys one tank a month. (unless going to visit her mother on the west FL coast) That saves over $200 a month.

I drive slower now also. I am safer for the most part. A Prius can be a very positive part of your life as it is in mine!

I would like to rent a Prius to see if I like it but I am having a hard time finding a rental company that has them. Who did you go through?

We got it thru AVIS, Hertz also had one but they would not rent to us because we use debit cards and don't have a credit card.
The Avis guy told me we really lucked out usally as soon as the Prius comes back it goes right out again:)

47mpg isn't bad the first month you drive a prius.

but if you decide to buy one, you'll 're-learn' how to drive and your mpg will go up every month.
I started out at 47mpg when I first got my prius but here's my current mpg:

    spring: 57mpg
summer: 52mpg culprit: a/c, solution: offer a damn moonroof Toyota!!
    fall: 57mpg
winter: 42mpg culprit: cold weather & heavy steel wheels & snow tires, solution: none

I take very short trips, my mpgs would be higher if I took longer trips, you'll find when you own one that you play games with yourself and try to challenge yourself to do better with every tank. The best I ever did was 57.2 over 565 miles.

Just be careful not to run out of gas, the prius has a 11.9 gallon tank but there's only about 10 gallons you can use. The other 1.9 gallons are 'unaccessible.' So for you newbies renting a prius make sure to add gas as soon as the gas light starts blinking.
