New Sirus Satellite Radio options.

I couldn't figure out a way to test the TOY-SC1. I ordered it from TSS-radio. I emailed them about the problem and they shipped a new unit.

 

What's with the volume on the TOY-SC1 and SC-C1? All Sirius channels are coming in only about half as loud as regular radio; switching from SAT to FM easily confirms this, as I can't get my Sirius up loud enough while FM hurts my ears at about 30%.

I feel like I saw another post about this earlier. Any fixes for this? If I can't turn it up louder, this product is worthless to me.

 

I'm a bit confused here. We are in the process of purchasing a new 08 package #6 Prius. The dealer told me that the new Prius have both XM and Sirius capabilities. However, he went on to say that the dealer would have to install a "chip" - which would cost me somewhere about $400 to have the system work. I do want the system to be integrated with the car.

I have a portable Sirius unit now - and from reading the threads here it appears that there are kits that allow you to integrate it. That said, I don't want a portable system that is going to take up glove box space, have wires and portable antennas.

Just looking for the cleanest and most effective setup.

Your dealer doesn't really know what he is talking about. There is no "chip". It's a tuner, and you choose XM or Sirius. You can choose the same factory tuner from outside sources, or an after market tuner, or even an interface-adapter for your portable unit, to allow fully integrated, MFD control. And do it yourself.

 

I'm afraid your shop may not know what they are doing. It's simple plug and play. Any Prius factory headunit is satellite ready. Push the AM button twice, 3 and four times, for Sat 1,2,3. Did they install both the tuner and interface?

 

There's an audio level toggle option built into the TOY-SC1. Simply turn on the system in SAT mode, then enter the following code quickly using your preset buttons: 162534

The first time you enter that it will toggle the audio level to HI. If you repeat it, will toggle level to LO. The TOY-SC1 ships with default level set to LO.

ummm this may be a stupid question, but where are the "preset buttons"? I have a package #6... The preset buttons are on the MFD, I tried pushing them but it didn't work. Is there another set of buttons I'm missing?

 

For about $150 you can add a TOY-SC1 and SC-VDOC1 to your prius and use your portable unit in the prius with total factory integration. If you use the instructions earlier in this thread for concealing your antenna in the rear spoiler, the only way anyone will know you have Sirius is by looking in the upper glove-box (my dock location, YMMV). You really don't lose much usable space and the installation is completely concealed.

 

The preset buttons are on the MFD. The preset "blocks".
If you have the D.E. TOY-SC1 interface , Quickly touch preset blocks 1-6-2-5-3-4. It worked for me, volume level increased and it's in balance with the rest of the radio sources.

We are going to purchase a 2008 package 4 at the end of the month.
I just wanted to be clear on what I need to order so I don't go crazy without Sirius...

and my current head unit.

That seem about right?
Looks like the installation will be easy with all the pictures and guides that I saw already.

So long as your current receiver is compatible with the sc-vdoc1, that should just about do it. FYI, I tried to note this in a previous post, but the dog ate it; the Stiletto portable units don't seem to agree with this set-up, my SO has the Stiletto 100 and it will randomly work in my car, but most often it either won't connect at all or will have no audio.

 

If you already have a portable Sirius tuner, that is dockable, correct.
If you don't have a tuner you need the SC-C1 tuner.
Not the Svc-Doc1, it's just a dock for a portable tuner.

I had the dealership install the Toyota Sirius module in my '08' #6 and the Sat comes in great under the AM/SAT button. I did not have to mess with things and for me it was a worthwhile $400 spent.

 

$100 would have gotten you 16 character display and full integration, instead of $400 and 10 characters.
