I'm a newbie and I'm having a problem understanding the directions for the BT phone. I'm paired, have entered names in the phone book and speed dial, but I don't understand using the voice command. The manual has me confused (not hard when you're in your 70's). I've followed the directions, but somehow I'm missing something in the set up. Does anyone know of a simplified way to do this?
BTW, I was told my phone wouldn't transfer it's phone book, but I dug and found a solution. I'm using a Verizon LG VX8300 and it paired very easy. The phone book is a different matter until you find the solution on Verizon's site.
Can the voice be used while in motion?
    Thanks,
    Fred

You need to create voice tags for your phone book entries in the Prius. It's needs to be done for each entry that you wish to voice dial (other than voice dialing by number). Go to the phone screen and edit the contact. There is an option for voice tags - I think it is on the second screen. Push that button and the system will prompt you through recording the tag. Record whatever phrase you want to use for that entry, such as "Sue's cell".

I've gone there, but didn't see a prompt. for a tag, or voice.
What do you mean by the second screen, perhaps that's my problem?
    Thanks

By second screen I mean page 2 of the menu. Many of the Prius screens have more than one page.

"Dial by name" is a neat feature, and I get good results from voice commands, but for practical usability, it stinks.
The whole command-response routine with the bluetooth system is annoying, and system prompts cannot be interrupted by use of the talk switch to expedite things. Which is interesting, since system prompts can be interrupted (or even turned off) when conversing with the nav system. Plus you gotta remember which contacts you made a voice tag for, and what the tag is.

Speed dials are the way to go. Simple, quick, easy and on-the-go capable..

if you do not have the nav you can still go into the settings and disable audio prompts, with those tuned off , you will just hear a beep then you say what you want instead of waiting for the car to say please say a command or whatever

I do have the NAV, but can't seem to get the sequence right.
    Thanks,

I'll be d-mned, I was demoing my Prius to some friends today, told them of my frustration and started messing with the BT and all of a sudden I got to the next "page" and it set up my voice recognition. I did two, so thank you all for your help, especially QBEE42. Now I might be able to help a fellow owner.:)

Those second pages are sneaky. I had trouble finding some of the options, only to later discover another page. It still throws me sometimes.
