Issues with the stereo buttons on the dash.

    I have the jbl 6 disk changer.

    1st off the unit still functions( for the most part). i can change cds(via the touchscreen) change inputs (via the sterring wheel controls). also the volume and track knobs still work fine.


    the buttons are the only issues power,tune/seek, inputs, load and eject. i also noticed that the lights on the unit that tell you if the disk slot is full or vacant no longer are lighting up.


    please help, im praying this is just fuse or some setting i might have screwed up b/c my dad works for a dealership and he said a replacement unit is 350:(

    This sounds like you need a new stereo unit. This should be covered under the 3 yr/36K mile basic warranty. If your warranty has expired maybe you can ask Toyota for a break on the price of a replacement unit.

    My first thought would be to check the connections at th back of the unit. If the unit still functions as normal (sans buttons / lights), I would think that the face-plate might be a sub-assembly that has it's own connector either in front of or behind the head unit. I will admit that I am a little more ambitious than most when it comes to disassembly of electronic items, but when it comes to fixing or buying new, I can most often save myself some money ($350) by performing a little dissective maintenance.

    im still a little gun shy working on this car..i have ahd several toyotas and am mechanically competent, but this car scares me for some reason. i might take the dash apart and check the connections in the back.

    UPDATE!!!!
    on my lunch break i went out to my car and though about what you guys had posted. i decided to take the palm of my hand and push on the face of the unit. the lights above the disks came back on!! granted they were all orange so i knew this was not correct. i turned off the car ( i wanted to say rebooted) and turned it back on and the issue was gone!!


    i really appreciate the fast replies and hope that i can soon contribute to these forums as much as the members that helped me!
