I would save this money for a real plug-in Prius whenever it comes out...

Price is still too high for plug-in entry, $4500 can do a lot of fill-ups for a Prius already.

There's no need to pay premium on future technology NOW. I'll leave my Prius as-is until the true plug-in technology has matured and more affordable/feasible later.

so you think the new plug-in pruis wil have the same price?
i think the plug-in option will cost 3000 dollars optional when its on the market.
this is a aftermarket mod to the prius so i think the price is higher because of that! ( its not mass produced ) and therefor justifiable

    Hello everyone.
I have been working on Plug-ins for the past two years and here are the facts.

    • They work
    • The biggest problem is Battery Management System (BMS)
    • No one has a tested BMS for Lithium-ion except Hybrid-Plug and Hymotion.
    • Don’t even try to do a Lithium without a BMS
    • Lead-acid can be valuable for a Do It Yourselfer.
    • Don’t even try Lead-acid without a BMS
    • You can add a BMS yourself to any pack or kit you get.

I am trying to finalize my kit.
It is Lead-acid with a BMS.
It fits under the floor in the back.
It can have a Bumper Plug-Front, Bumper Plug-Rear, or none at all.
It bolts down on existing bolt holes so there is no drilling on your beautiful Prius.
Wires are completely Plug and Play so you can undo it if you want.

It rises up to let you get at your spare when you need.
It comes with custom springs that lift your car back to where it should be after you add all the batteries.
I am working with a charger company for cheaper 240v chargers.

You can plug in your own Can-view if you have the right one.
You can buy a Can-View directly from Norm.

This has taken me a long time because I have done all my work with no funding of any kind and I’m not rich. I believe in Plug-ins and I would like to see more on the road. I’m not a salesman so I will be the first person to tell you that Plug-ins won’t work for everyone. The do work great as commuter cars and I pull my pack for long vacations.

I wanted to make sure my pack would not cut, drill, hack, damaging the Prius the way my original pack was. My rear trunk area was cut up badly to put in the pack and no one should have to replace all those parts. Both sides of my trunk area are cut and the floor on both sides was lost in California. It is no ones fault it was just how they were done then. I believe I have come up with a much better option now. The center floorboard does have to be cut still so if you are thinking about doing a conversion yourself and you happen by one at a junkyard, grab it.

Priuschat DIY will be able to buy just the parts they need or the whole kit. I am working on pricing now.

Here is a video I made this past weekend.

Again they are not for everyone, and they are coming one day because they work!

Wouldn't doing this kind of conversion somehow VOID the orginal 3/36,000 warranty somehow??, Or VOID the Hybrid battery warranty that is 8/100,000 miles correct??

If so, this would be something that one would do after the warranty has run out??

The only way Toyota can void the warranty is to prove this pack caused the damage. and if it caused damaged to the stock battery for example then yes Toyota can void JUST the battery warranty. They cant void the engine warranty unless they can prove the extra pack damaged it.

    From what I have seen,
Toyota's Prius BMS keeps the OEM battery (Prius Main Battery) between 40 and 80%.
Toyota babies the OEM battery, and that is why it lasts so long.
This PHEV pack helps keep the OEM battery more often between 60 and 80%.
This Babies the OEM battery even more.
Hybrid-Plus has the best system because they take the OEM battery out and replace it. However it is expensive.
I would rather you get the facts and wait for an auto makers plug-in, but for those who did not want to wait like me, a DIY conversion does work. I did it to reduce the amount of air pollution I make.
