Finally got my these touring wheels powder coated and loaded up with some Falkens. I totally forgot to get center caps painted. Any thoughts if this would look good or not?

That is a different approach to the touring wheels. The chrome center cap works since the lugs are already chrome. But, I still don't like the touring wheels...imho. Maybe just powder coat the wheel covers? I like the why the wheel covers look though.

I think it looks sharp. Great idea. Leave the chrome caps as they are.

But how durable is that white powder coat?

Yeah nice radome!! Thats the Prius AWACS option right. I thought about that one. You can use it to call in airstrikes to clear the freeway ahead of you!!

    SWEET!!!

Very clean look-what did it cost to powder coat all 4 wheels? I have been considering doing my 17" wheels in gun metal grey when I replace tires in about 2 months.

Could you tell us how much it cost per wheel?

I'd like to get my aftermarket wheels powder coated if it's not too expensive. (They came with just paint and it is starting to flake off)

    Thanks

Wow! Thanks for the positive comments. You never really know how something will end up looking without trying it, it really sucks when the money is spent and the outcome is ugg :(

I found a powder coat company in Auburn, WA. We spent 15 minutes matching the color, my eyes cannot see any difference from the car color. Because these wheels were brand new they did not need sandblasting. The dude said they would lightly scuff them to ensure good paint adhesion. He charged me $60 per wheel which is the "cash" price, if you know what I mean.

As for durability, time will tell I guess. Powder coat is supposed to be more like enamel than just paint. This outfit has a huge investment in machinery for applying the stuff, I'll keep my fingers crossed they didn't just rattle-can me :p

Guess I better see about the AWACS antenna, lol!

well, the local machinists here probably had a good laugh at me.
I actually asked them if they could powdercoat my wheel trims. HA HA

They will do my touring rims for $75 each. Hmmmmm

Think I like these better for about the same cost!

Now I'm no powder coat expert so, take this with a grain of salt.

Powder coating I believe requires the target object to have a certain electrical charge and the paint to have an opposite charge. This will cause the two to attract each other.

Metallic objects, in addition to having the ability to be electrically charged, also happen to be able to conduct electricity. I don't think electrical conductivity is a prerequisite for the powder coating process.

Therefore, you should be able to powder coat anything that is capable of holding an electrical charge that is the opposite of the paint one hopes to apply to it.

And, if you think as obtusely as I quite often do, it's quite reasonable to view power coating as objects sticking to the paint, not vice-versa, and paint is not metal.

So, sue me if I'm wrong :D

I am waiting for a bid to do my 17" wheels in the color of the wheels on the new Lexus IS F- it is a dark gunmetal grey color. I need tires pretty soon and figure thatis a great time to change rim color.

nice! Should look cool. Post pics when you get 'em!

I almost want to just powdercoat my stock rims, but they are a little, I don't know, thin looking, or for some reason, spare tire-ish.

I might as well keep them OEM and pick up some sharp blacks!

OK, I got a bid for the wheels from a local powder coating shop in Oakland, CA- $60 per wheel with a one day turn around.
I will be doing that in June and then installing new tires. I am going to change the wheels from Bright Silver to Smoked Hyper Silver (2008 Lexus IS F). It is a great looking dark gun metal grey color which I think will go great with my Tidelands Pearl Pruis. Once it is done I will of course post some pictures.

awesome! lucky you on the quote! mine was $75 each. Seriously thinking about it though, but I want to add a chrome lip to them somehow.
OEM touring rims / gloss black / chrome lip - now that could be smokin!

looking forward to the pics when you get 'em!

Just remember chrome adds weight to the wheel. Once I get it done I will post pictures. Really looking forward to the change.
