"Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." - H.L. Mencken.

Are there things worth fighting for? Yes.

Are there things worth killing innocent children for? No. Never. Ever. Period!!!

Is it worth killing innocent children to secure sufficient oil that housewives can drive 7-passenger SUVs to the grocery store? The criminals who run this country say Yes. I say no. See above.

    Yay more quotes!

    Heres one.

“In department stores, so much kitchen equipment is bought indiscriminately by people who just come in for men's underwear.â€

    Julia Child.

If killing innocents is part of the greater good, it needs to be done. It is not pleasant, nor is it nice to think about.

When the Allies were bombing Berlin do you think the munitions dropped could differentiate Combatant from innocent?

A military is good at 2 things, killing people and breaking things. In the process of killing people and blowing up stuff, collateral casualties happen.

You contend that bombing axis positions in 1944-1945 was wrong?

There should be a law against buying kitchen appliances in department stores!

Here's another: "Freedom is not given. It is won."

Gees, weren't we all just feelin' the love a minute ago?! I'm gonna have to go eat some ice cream!

Ending WW2? I think most folks might have thought that was a good idea.

The world was a better place with the Axis out of the conquest business. To put up the closed for renovations notice, innocent German babies and little old Japanese ladies died.

Ummm, that's what the press would call them. Just like they call a Staff Sgt. or any other Staff NCO a "Sgt". It's like, "Gees, thanks for the demotion in rank I worked so hard for!"

Nope. I drive through Bridgeport all the time (my buddy was stationed there for cold weather training?) and go on field study hikes partially up Sonora Pass but I never make it to the other side. Here is a pic of the Pass on a trip a year ago. :)

    Very nice photo F8L!

I'm a member of the NRA as well. I to some safety training on the side for kids and sometimes adults that are new to gun ownership. I really don't have a lot of time to do it but it is very enjoyable.

I'm a designated marksman and have had tons of training in the Army. Never had to go into that part of the job yet.

But, I as well as many others love to own and shoot guns all the time.

    No stickers on my truck.

    Thanks Jimmie,

Do you do work with the Hunter Safety programs or is it something different? While the program is very basic, even 20+yrs later I still remember pretty vividly the things taught in that class. :)

So now its ok for the US to be in the conquest business? Its ok for the US to invade innocent countries and kill innocent people in the name of oil? Strange new values our military has, supporting political beliefs instead of the US.

Wow, Your accuracy on what led us to War is pretty incorrect. We didn't invade for oil but to bring down the power of a regime who killed innocent people by genecide.

Don't even question the US Military in such manner. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Our invasion of Iraq has killed as many, if not many more, than Saddam was accused of killing, thats better? There are many other regimes that have killed many times more than Saddam ever killed, why haven't we attacked or invaded them?

Iraq was oil and money, and nothing else, otherwise the story wouldn't have constantly changed. Iraq had Iran in check, now its not, more justification for conquesting. Iraq is now going to join Iran as a Shiite oil producer, countering more moderate Sunni oil producers, eventually raising the price of oil even further.

This is an odd assertion, considering that Saddam Hussein committed genocide against the Kurds using chemicals bought from the United States, and with the full knowledge of the United States, and the United States said nothing about it until Saddam decided to stop supporting U.S. foreign policy. Only when he quit being our lapdog did we suddenly decide that the genocide against the Kurds was a bad thing. And by the time W decided to invade, the WMDs had been destroyed and Saddam was no better or worse than any of America's client dictators around the world. But he had turned against us, which W and his cronies could not forgive, and he had oil, and he was threatening to start pricing his oil in euros instead of dollars, and that was a threat to U.S. economic power.

Meanwhile the United States had been a full-on supporter of the brutal, murderous, dictatorial oppression of Pinochet in Chile, of Indonesia against east Timor, and of the right-wing death-squad governments in Central America.

As for Germany and WW II, if you kick a dog long enough, eventually it will bite. Then the hypocrite who's been kicking the dog suddenly says, "You're lucky I had a gun to shoot that dog because it was running around biting people!" The Allies had been kicking Germany since the end of WW I (a war fought to re-divide colonial boundaries as the colonial powers scrabbled over the "right" to oppress, exploit, and brutalize the third world at a time of rapid capitalist expansion and the search for raw materials and markets) and then when Germany finally became rabid and went berserk, the Allies, just like the hypocritical dog-kicker, suddenly shout that they "had" to fight another war.
