What car does your Prius replace?

Prius replaces 2004 Cadillac CTS-V. Caddy had a supercharger and dyno'ed at 490HP to the wheels.

This is old news to some, but I did sell my Chrysler on 5/7 and got my Prius that same day! :cheer2:

 

I just replaced my 2005 Mercedes c230 Kompressor with a 2008 pkg six. The Mercedes has a much better interior but I bought the Prius for a whole bunch of different reasons than interior looks!

 

Mine replaced an 01 Montero that got about 17 mpg on average. It was a lot more comfortable than the Prius, but I definitely don't regret the decision.

 

I traded a 2003 Subaru Baja. I really liked that car and was sorry to see it go, but I really love my new Prius.

I traded in a 05' Subaru Legacy GT Limited. It averaged 20 mpg, but was very fun to drive. I felt the interior was deteriating a little too fast, though. Oh, and never put performance tires on a vehicle if you don't want to replace them 15,000 miles later. Right before trading it in, at 40 mph, it would hum so loud that I thought my fillings would fall out.

I absolutely love my Prius.

 

Bought a 1999.5 Pathfinder new-5 speed,great gas milage,trouble free.
Looked and drove like new when I sold her.
After doing some research decided on Prius-glad I did!

 

My Prius replaced a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta. It was totaled in an accident (not my fault, phew), and the first thing I thought of was to get a hybrid. Never looked back, I love it so much more than any other car I've had or driven.

 

Our Prius replaced a 2006 Toyota Matrix, a car we liked a lot until at 14,000 miles the tires needed replacing. They were all worn badly on the inside corners, with almost-new tread on the outside. (Yes, we had rotated them as specified, and maintained proper inflation.) We had alignment checked by dealer we bought it from, both times they said alignment was OK. I found on some online forums we were not the only ones with the problem; some said there was a design flaw, maybe bogus alignment specs in order to pass rollover tests. Started to pursue remedy via Lemon Law, but didn't need all that negativity in my life, bit the bullet (ate first-year depreciation) and traded it in on the Prius (but NOT at the dealer that gave us nothing but a hard time with the Matrix), the car we should have bought in the first place but "couldn't afford". Toyota ALMOST lost a good customer over the Matrix, but we're very happy with our Prius, and with our other vehicle, an '08 Tacoma pickup.

I replaced '95 Miata with well over 100.000 miles, all mine. Aside from better mileage and all the other neat stuff, the Prius actually tracks (corners) better than the Miata under all road conditions...and it carries a heckuva lot more "stuff"!

What car does MY Prius replace?

I traded UP by donating my 1998 Toyota Camry LE with 306,000+ miles / 492,459+ kms to someone who needed a car to drive, (He had an old Suburban and an old Buick Grand National that died in the same week) plus I had the dreaded CHECK ENGINE light and wasn't going to sink anymore money into the Camry.

For reference:

Replaced Timing belt at 60,000 miles / 96560 kms (odd that it was loose) and again at 220,000 miles / 354055 kms (because it was drying and cracking)

Replaced Brake pads at 60,000 mile intervals and the entire brake system (pads, rotors, calipers) at the 220,000 mile mark (this was $1,000)

Unknown hydraulic leak, dealer couldn't find where it was leaking so replaced enough parts to solve issue. This was around 200,000 miles / 321,868 kms thus another $1,600.

The Camry served me well, and receipient found out for me the distributor was bad (Apparently as long as they weren't in OVERDRIVE, the car would run OK...) so he will have it fixed and get possibly another 80k-100k miles (128,747-160,934 kms) out of it, maybe more.

Nice to know at 9,600+ miles on my Prius (Purchased New in Jan 08) that I can save about 40% of my car payment on the gas savings. I elected to pay $10,000 down and finance the rest for 36 months (thus the 40%).

 

1990 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

Lovely car with a very comfy ride and lots of power but it sure wasn't very economical.

I'm no audiophile but I enjoy getting my groove on while traveling to work and about town and I'm really missing the powerful sound system that car had. I don't think it had the premium Bose system that was offered that year but I installed a cheap JVC AM/FM Single Disk CD player several years ago and it sounded great.

Even though my Lima Bean has the premium sound system--and five more speakers(!), it sure doesn't come close to the one in the Cadillac. I'd say that's my one big disappointment with the Prius.

 

We replaced our beloved 1967 VW Bug. In the process, we've upgraded from two knobs and a speedometer to bluetooth and a NAV system. Oh, and what a luxury seatbelts are...

Loved the Bug, but it's no place for newborns.

By the way, anyone want to buy a Bug?

 

My Prius replaced a 2006 Chevy Avalanche which averaged 16 mpg. I am now averaging 52 mpg with my 2008 Prius. Outside temp is around 40-50 F.

 

Replacing daily driving from my '98 Dually Suburban, which got 10-11 mpg. I'll throw a shout out to my amigo in Kenai; I'll get mine up the Alcan to the interior soon.
