I Installed the SSC1/Toy-SSC1 a few hours ago and activated it. Works like a charm! I cannot believe how easy it was to do following the PriusChat Pdf instructions.
Only difficult part I found was getting the antenna wire by the rear passanger side airbags at the roof level and I had the hardest time trying to remove the huge wire harness behind the vent between the glove compartment and the radio. I kept on trying to unplug the wires then realized the whole thing just unscrewed.
I also needed a few minutes to figure out where to go on the MFD to access the Sirius Radio. I kept scrolling between Aux and CD settings till I found the SAT on the wheel Mode button and by toggling the AM button.
Thanks PriusChat for the instructions, knowledge and support on my install!:D

I had mine installed by Tweeter last week. $150 for Sirius devices and $50 to install. Took about one hour. Antenna sits on dash just in front of center speaker. It's small, about 1 1/2" square. Works great, no drop-outs.

Glad to hear you are getting good reception with the antenna on the dash, I am planning on installing ours tonight and mounting it right on the center speaker.

Me too. I am very pleased with the installation. I put the SCC1 antenna in the spoiler, thanks to the excellent instructions and pictures by 9G-man in audio/electronics post #68. I had never pulled panels apart before so I was a bit concerned. For anyone doing it, a couple of others mentioned not letting the fastening clips be pushed through into the hatch frame. I fell for it because I checked the panels after I pulled them off and did not notice the little blue (or was it red) clips still in the rectangular slots in the hatch frame. Now I know to pull out those tiny colored clips from the hatch frame and clip them back onto the tabs on the panel. I too heard the sound of a clip (unrecovered) falling inside the hatch frame.

I cut the hole behind the center stop light with a Dremel as did 9G-man but I used a cutting disk and hobby knife. I used a nylon tie as a fish as did 9G and it worked especially well to pull the antenna through tough places because the end plug was held firmly by the enlarged end of the nylon tie (wrapped with black tape). One tough pull was the hole in the hatch frame through which the stop light wires pass (behind the light about 3 inches). The other was through the rubber boot at the hinge end of the hatch. For this pull I unplugged the rear washer hose and completely removed the boot together with the nylon ends (used a panel puller). Then, using the nylon "fish" I taped the antenna connector to the fish and pulled it thru the boot using a little WD40 as a lubricant (didn't have silicone spray). once the connector was through the boot I then fished the washer hose back through it and snapped the boot back into place. It would have been extremely difficult to pull the antenna connector thru the boot with the washer hose still inside.

I stuck the antenna to the bottom with velcro and held it down with some rubber taken from a discarded headphone pad. I covered the hole with duct tape as did 9G-man.

It was a bit of a fiddle to fish the antenna wire from under the detached headliner to above the passenger door (over the air bag) but the fish again proved indispensable (mine was 10" long and was barely long enough).

Again 9G-man was the key with his post #84 for working in the dash area. The only thing I would add here is that, as well as unscrewing the 10mm bolt (used a long handled phillips driver here) to loosen the top of the large wire bundle, a pair of long jawed small needle nose pliers pinched the bottom clamp of the bundle to completely release it, which allowed the bundle to be twisted out of the way of the access to behind the radio.

As an aside, I learned the hard way to tape the 10mm bolt to the screwdriver when I was reinstalling it. On the first attempt the bolt fell into the lower netherlands of the dash- out of sight. By a miracle I undid the lower right fastener to the lowest panel below the MFD and the lost bolt fell out (whew!)

The first time I put things back together it did not work, and I knew the plug had pulled out of the radio. The second time I pushed it harder and it seems to be staying in place. I could not find the lock to hold the plug in. I have large fingers and I could not feel the locking part, so I hope it holds when I drive over some bumpy roads. At this time I have both the TOY and the SCC1 in the back compartment of the lower glove box. I looked at locations behind the RH vent but with all the wires and plugs there I decided that I might be preventing future unplugging should it be needed.

If anyone has an easy location for these two little units and their cables please tell us. Even cable ties should work to hold them in place back there but I couldn't see an easy spot.

I would like to especially thank 9G-man again for his carefully done pictures and narrative in the above posts, without which I don't think I could have been successful

I bought one from a member here on the forum for $109 (thank you). I just popped the vent out and reached my hadn up in behind the radio plugged it in and that was it. I just put the unit in the glove box, because as history shows - my wife NEVER opens/uses her glove boxes EVER. Lucky me!!

I ran the antenna cable through the plastic on the passenger side and came out right through the factory antenna spot and put it right behind it.

Total install time about 30 minutes.

(I am skilled at taking apart and reassembling interiors though.)

She loves the Sirius, this is our third unit so we pay the discounted rate!!

Ok guys, I am having a heck of a time trying to get it plugged into the back of the radio. It goes in up to a point and I get the Sirius signal, but the slightest bump knocks it loose. I have tried repeatedly to get it in far enough to make a firm connection, and have tried pulling the locking tab done, but to no avail. Has anyone else experienced similar difficulities?

I did my install last week. I had the same problem. i mounted a credit card size mirror wedged behind the radio by the white plastic cable which gave me a great backwards view of the back of the radio. After a few tries I was able to get the plug in snug by visual and I was able to bend back the bottom tab on the plug and I headr a click and it locked into place. My first few tries I felt as if it would just fall out with the first bump.

After wasting a few hours and doing quite a bit of damage to my hand and forearm last night, I decided to open up the dash and pull the radio to access the back of the radio. Wish I had done it yesterday, took me all of an hour to take apart the dash, plug in properly, and put it back together. If you find yourself struggling to get a firm connection doing it "blind" I highly saving some aggravation and taking the dash apart. I might sound daunting, but it was actually quite easy to do. I printed out and followed the instructions Chris Dragon posted somewhere in the forums (sorry, can't find his post now).

Is the TOY-ssc1 the model to buy for the 9-speaker JBL system? Crutchfield thinks it's the SNY-ssc1 but I think that's for a Sony system. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi All, I just finished installing my sirius unit. I can't believe how tight it was behind the radio but finally I was able it get the plug in ( I now hope it holds in place). I have the two units wedged in the space between the upper and lower glove boxes. The antenna is on the roof behind the Prius antenna. It was easy tucking the wire under the panels without removing them. Thank's to all who guided us thru this process.

Actually the Cruthcfield site doesn't say the SNY-SSC1 is for the Prius. Their site specifically says this unit is for Sony systems.

But the Toyota version (TOY-SSC1) is what you need and they do carry it.
