Picked up my brand new Prius today at a dealer 100 mi. away. We had traveled 20 mi. from the dealer when my son, sitting in the back seat, asked, "Where is the clock?" We looked around the dash and realized a little black square where the clock should display. It's totally dead. We were too far away at that point to turn back. Looks like I'll need to take the car in to a local dealer - not a pleasant start with what I expect to be a quality product.

The first thing I want to check is the fuse box, since I think a bad fuse would be a likely possibility and the easiest thing to fix. However, I could not find a dedicated circuit for the clock (no surprise), and cannot tell what circuit the clock is tied into. I do not want to pull out every fuse to check them. But since the car is brand new, there may be other accessories that are on a dead circuit, and I just have not discovered them yet.

Do any of you know what circuit the clock is wired in to?

Does your dome light come on when the door is open? The dealer is supposed to install the dome light fuse as part of PDI. The clock is also powered from the dome light circuit.

Dome light is working fine, so it must not be the circuit breaker. It must be a bad or disconnected clock in the dash. Looks like it has to go back. I really am not looking forward to giving up the car so soon after I bought it.

Fuse 39 in the engine compartment and fuse 20 on driver's side panel power the clock.

I think these also are used with the radio. So if the radio is working it's probably not a fuse.

    There's a clock?

OK, I checked the manual and sure enough, there it is. So hard to see that, IMHO, it is useless. I think I would get a little smiley face sticker on it after the dealer fixes it. (After all, you did pay to have it running.) :)

Good reason to have a clock! ;)
