I just got my sharkfin antennae through the Prius Chat shop. First things first, the paint job is great. It matches my car perfectly and there are no blemishes whatsoever. As far as the sound goes, there is a very slight drop-off from the OEM antennae. But, I'm still getting AM radio from stations that are over 60 miles away, and this includes mountains and hills as well. I'm very pleased with the performance, especially after reading some other posts about sound quality. For the FM radio, I noticed no drop-off from the OEM, and again this is for stations that are based in Los Angeles - and well over 60 miles from my home. Not too shabby!!!! And the look is great!!! ;)

Great to hear! (no pun intended) I am planning on getting for soon for mine, I hear that the installation is pretty easy, how did you find it?

At the PriusChat shop. Be prepared to wait 3-4 weeks after ordering. Each one is painted to order.

How did you find the installation, was it easy or hard?

installation is very simple. You could probably do it in about 10 minutes. I took my time to make sure the roof was very clean and everything was lined up well...once you stick it on there I don't think you have a lot of chance to move it.

Yeah, the wait stunk for me as well. However, once I saw the finished product, I was glad they took their time. The paint job was flawless!!!

Thank you so much for posting your experience. I too had read all of the posts stating the drop off in reception, I had decided I was not willing to loose reception.
Now I am back to wanting to get one.
That will be my next mod!

Just installed a Thule rack, and it 'was' a chore, just as others have posted.

Anyhow, thank you for sharing your experience, looking forward to ordering my own!!

You "will" lose "some", but not to the point where it caused me any dismay.

Now that my Sirius is installed, my next project will be the Sharkfin. I love the look and since I use the Sirius, reception will not be an issue.

Any drop off will depend on what's the frequency and where you are from the antenna. It's possible you might have no problems, but your neighbor, who listens to different stations will. I suppose if you could find someone with a Sharkfin and have them try the stations you listen to might help seeing if you'll have drop off or not.

It was such a beautiful day today that I had to take a couple of photos of my Prius with the new tint and sharkfin antennae. I love the look of the antennae. It really separates my car from the thousands of Prius showing up around California. Also, as I said earlier, I'm having no issues with reception of stations well over 60 miles away!!! :)

I just ordered one too. I couldn't care less about AM or FM since I am a Sirius listener (I NEVER listen to terrestrial radio anymore). Has anyone tried to put the Sirius antenna under the sharkfin? I'd love to know what the results were. I tend to think it would be an issue, but who knows.

I got mine under there. No issues. I put a little silicone around the antenna hole just to be extra special sure I wouldn't end up with water leaking in (I cleaned it up a little neater than the pics show). Rained hard today (first time in months) and everything looks good.

    Sirius reception is unaffected.

ETA: my wife should (hopefully) get her Prius within the next few weeks. I'll be getting the sharkfin and putting her sirius antenna in there too.

I did the sirius in front of the stock antenna- both under the SF. it looks & works great. I used my dremel to notch the rear section of the stock antenna- then routed it in the same hole as the stock am/fm and along the headliner to the front , I also used some silicone to be safe (I hope)

    Dont be afraid- it works

ordered mine on 5/28 and it was delivered yesterday :biggrin1:. Installation was a snap, and as mrblaise says, it really does separate your Prius from the other thousands on the road.

Also added the rear bumper protector as you can see in the pics...bring on the next mod! what it is, I have no idea :)
