    All of that makes sense except for the last part. The Prius is a parallel hybrid. The Chevy Volt is an example of a series hybrid.

    No, a hybrid like Honda's is parallel, where the motor is directly integrated to the engine and cannot work independently.

    The ability to power the wheels exclusively by electricity regardless of what the engine is or isn't doing is a series trait, which is why Prius is considered a "series-parallel" hybrid. But that term is rarely used, "full" hybrid is the prefered label.
