Being new to this forum (or ANY Forum for that matter...) I am ignorant of protocol, so please excuse any gaffs.

Here's my question: can anybody recommend a dealer who happens to have a 2008 Touring (with or without packages) sitting on his lot waiting for me?

According to one dealer I talked to on the phone yesterday, there are only 15 left in the Whole Country... I find it hard to swallow.

Another bit of information you all might find interesting: according to a person at Toyota HQ, the 2009 Touring goes into production in mid August...

Not sure you'd want to come to Washington State for one but the dealership where I got mine only has 1 listed.
Auburn Toyota Dealer ? Doxon Toyota your Western Washington Toyota Dealer since 1938.

Another local dealership has 3 (not sure if they are touring though): Bob Bridge Toyota in Renton Washington, offering new and used Toyotas, a New Toyota Dealer and a New Toyota Dealership offer Cars, Trucks and SUVs

I haven't been to this dealership but they have 9 listed (again, not sure if they are touring): Burien Toyota - Your Renton, SeaTac, Auburn and Seattle Toyota Dealer

when i was searching for my touring via websites i gave up that route
after a while. i would call the dealership and find that the website was
totally wrong. they would maybe have one left on the lot for test drives
and it would not be a touring.

after a week of that BS, i decided to simply put money down and order
one from the factory. I got exactly what I wanted and simply waited 6
    weeks.

IA, it's best to call around rather than going off of the websites only. When I was looking for one almost a month ago the website said there were about 7. When I went in all of them were sold and off the lot. I put a deposit down on the next shipment while there. By the time I got home and checked their website again the cars were gone.

Luckily I only had to wait about 5 days to get mine straight off the train. :)

We initially wanted a Touring when we went looking. We were told that the model wasn't popular and that the dealer did not expect any in the near future. I then started looking around and found one on the web at another dealer. WHen I called, I was told that that car had been sold and that dealer had no idea when they would be getting in another. since I wanted a particular color, went with the regular Prius.

Regarding the cars on the web - from what i understand, the cars are placed in the dealer inventory on the web by Toyota when they leave the port for the dealer. Therefore all the cars shown in inventory may have deposits on them already. My salesperson told me that the car would arrive on a monday in a Prius shipment they were expecting. That monday at 9 AM I went website to see if anything was showing. Suprise - my VIN was among the Priuii shown as in inventory. Since I was concerned about the dealer selling the car to someone else, I asked my wife to get right over to the dealer and make sure that we received the car for the price agreed. We she got there - the car was not yet off the carrier!!!. With the current demand for Priuii, the web inventory may be of little or no help.

Thanks, FCC. Can you order directly from Toyota?

Oh no. You still have to goto a dealership and talk with a salesperson.
Even the dealership cannot order "directly". They work through distribution
points i believe based on region. Someone correct me if i am wrong there.
I am probably confusing the facts.

All i know is, is that I did not want to be on a waiting list for cars to show
up and then i get a chance to pick among them. I told the dealer exactly
what I wanted and they put in the order. Touring, 2008, magnetic grey, package 6,
car alarm with window breakage sensor, etc...

I waited six weeks just as they said and everything worked out great!
As soon as the car arrived they called me and told me to get down there
before someone wanted to test drive a touring ;-)

The dealership does not sell cars over MSRP and i found that good of them
considering how hot this car is right now.

I am not totally sure what they meant by putting an order in but the end
result was getting exactly what I wanted. period. No selecting among what
    just happened to come in.

Many Thanks, again. Having just made a half-dozen calls, I totally see your point. All I need to do now is find a dealer who is (at least) semi-pleseant to work with.

The few I talked to, will not pass the "pleseant" test, except a few on the West Coast... So since I live in Connecticut (on weekends) , I wonder if I should look up your dealer?

Again, thanks for the thoughtful and helpful advice.

It cannot hurt to try. I live in Nashua NH. The dealership i went to was toyota
of nashua. The salesperson's first name was Rick. Very nice guy. Tell him Matt sent
you and you want the same sort of setup. I bought the touring and he should easily
remember me because we talked a lot and we just talked again today. 603 888 3555.
    or 1800 300 3555.

I just know things have really picked up and I have no idea what the time line would
be for a prius right now.

I have his business card in my car but I have the numbers on my desk.
Rick Malbo or something like that was his last name if they are confused. I only
    remember one Rick/Rich there.

If you want more info please post to this thread asking for more.

Check Auto Trader every day ... I have found a few Tourings on there that pop up from Arkansas & Texas ... generally they have aftermarket accessories put on there that I don't want and often they have aftermarket leather as well. The prices tend to be quite overinflated b/c of this, but if you really want one ASAP ...
