I'm about to accept delivery of a new Magnetic Gray w/ Dark Gray interior 08 Prius and wondered if anyone had experience with this color making the car hotter in the summer or harder/longer to cool down for driving comfortably? My choice was ANY light-colored model but this one came up immediately as apposed to the 1-3 month wait I signed up for.

Well, we just bought a metallic grey also. I'm not sure if the exterior color heightens the temp, but our old car had a beige interior, and I can tell you, this black/grey interior gets much hotter in the sun than the beige interior did. But it does cool down quickly with a few minutes of air conditioning, just make sure and get yourself a sun shade.

However, I also noticed when taking a ride in the back seat to measure the comfort level, the back window made me feel like I was in an Easy Bake oven! Even with the air conditioner on, So I bought some vinyl sheeting to install on the hatchback window, hope it helps.

Not a Magnetic Gray with Dark Gray, Oooo, you're gonna sweat.
What you really need is what I got.
A Super White with Dark Gray.

We all know Super Whites look better, stay cleaner longer and get superior gas mileage.

(okay, don't listen to me about color, but I do like the Super Whitey.)

A great choice. The bisque color interior is very difficult to keep clean.

    Patrick,

Somehow, prior to purchasing, I knew that and refused to get the bisque interior, especially in cloth. Dark Gray Leather, although boring, is really nice.

Well I just love my Barcelona Red baby with a dark grey cloth interior... cloth stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer... and you don't slide around on it...

It's not going to make that much difference. Get your windows tinted and get some of the window guards that allow you to crack your windows a bit.

I think you're going to love the mag gray/gray.

I have a magnetic gray, with dark gray and I do not notice difference in the heat factor compared to a silver car I owned. I think that the tinted windows will help though.

Getting the windows tinted will help for sure. I had a white car for 5 years before the Prius (which is an 04 Tideland, so it's kinda dark...darker than white anyways). It's been well into the 90s here for the past couple weeks. From what I recall of the previous white car, when it's that hot outside the car is hot no matter what.

The AC works super good in my Prius. It's blowing cold before I'm out of the parking lot.

...and I think the Mag Gray looks really nice.

As much as I liked the mag gray color (probably my favorite aesthetically), I thought that it was the least 'safe' in terms of visibility to other drivers. Its the same color as asphalt!

I wouldn't worry about interior temperatures or any other consideration like visibility influence your decision though. Pick whatever color you like...

It's almost impossible to tell what the exterior color is while driving.

The Toyota sales guy showed me a light car and a dark car in the sun on their lot. The dark car felt so much hotter. Big difference.
Any color was OK with me, though I did not want black or white. The pkg 2 was more important than the color.

That was my first thought, as well. Some years back I owned a Volvo 740 that was a charcoal gray. On two separate occasions I was involved in accidents because the oncoming drivers apparently failed to notice me coming and either turned left in front of me or attempted to pass another car while coming at me. That was all in a three year period and I have been accident free, both before and after for over 35 years otherwise. Those cars disappear on overcast days on asphalt. Other than the safety concern, though, it is an attractive color to me.

Anyway, I bought a Salsa Red Prius with an ivory interior and love it, even in the Texas heat.

no matter what color you get, the temp in the rear of the car is going to be hot even with the air full blast. i am thankful i am the driver and not the passenger in these instances.

I have a magnetic gray also, and I should warn you: it will make food taste a little better, the sky a little bluer, and birds sing a little sweeter.

Is this from experience? My passengers have had no complaints. Without tinted windows in Dallas it stays cool.

I was lucky and got mine just before the big crunch. (April 8th) The dealer had about a dozen on the lot. I knew I did not want the #3 features but did want the #2. He had three #2 colors to choose from. Red, White, and Black. Red got the nod.

That car will absolutely be hotter than a lighter car, trust me I came from owning light cars and then I got the Lexus. The Prius is Tideland and stays much cooler than the Lexus.

Get the Mag Grey though, thats the best color on the Prius, IMHO.

Thanks for the input, I've taken safety visability factor as well as summer heat to heart and bumped myself down the list to wait for a light colored Prius. And I'm rentin' while I'm waitin'! Serious hot car hater...
