GM raises incentives on some large SUVs, trucks - Yahoo! News

" DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp (GM.N) has raised cash rebates on some of its large sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks to a total of up to $6,000 in the face of falling U.S. sales.

The increased incentives of as much as $4,000 cash back were being offered to current GM vehicle owners on models such as the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban SUVs, and up to $3,000 on pickup trucks such as the Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

The owner loyalty incentives also cover hybrid versions of the Tahoe and the GMC Yukon, the first time GM has offered any incentives on those large hybrid SUVs, it said.

The program, which is in addition to existing incentives of as much as $2,000 cash back, started on June 7 and runs to the end of the month, the company said...."

I guess they are trying to move the behemoths anyway possible. I don't know how much a couple of thousand is going to do. You will just have to hold on to that money you saved and pump it into the tank.

funny, I passed a Chevy dealership over the weekend and they had a big suv (not sure which one) on the lot with two foot letters down the side that said $10,000 off.. and a Vette with the same letters that said $12,000 off... I imagine they can hardly give these low mpg cars away right now.. We even considered buying a mid size suv for a song for the once or twice a year where it would really be nice to have a larger vehicle, but when you consider insurance every month, that alone makes it not worth the cost. We'll just rent something when we take the kid, the dog, the luggage, and gifts to xmas vacation! Hell, we probably won't even do that. We've always gotten everything to fit in the Prius, it's just tight. but then, it's only for a day or two a year. God, I love this car!

Yeah, I don't know if Ford is doing it too, but the Ford dealership here has a big F-250 with a 10,000 OFF MSRP sticker on the windshield, it has been sitting there for about 2 months, lol.

If price of oil stays high or rises, just wait a few years when all the lease returns come in and they'll be giving SUVs away in your box of Cracker Jacks.

Or yeah, just rent when you need. Perhaps dealers will be renting them out cheap soon.

Vette actually has amazingly good mileage

Actually the mileage for the Corvette is amazingly good given how much power it has: 430 hp. The 08 Vette is 08+ EPA rated at 16/26, 19 combined.

My 287 hp 04 350Z automatic (don't shoot me) when EPA rating is adjusted/converted to current methods is 17/24, 19 combined. The manual is 18/24, 20 combined.

That said, w/high gas prices, I'd imagine many would think twice about buying such as car.

The local Toyota dealership is advertising $6000 off on Tundras. It's not just confined to the domestics.
