Hit by fuel price, which way will motorists turn?

A lot will just get angry and do nothing.

 

look at the EV forums online.. more interest than ever in EV's.. for most people, an EV conversion can handle 90% of their driving needs.. A Prius for the other 10? !! that's what I'd like to do, already have the Prius, have been researching the EV for a couple of months now.

 

NASCAR drivers will keep turning left.

 

Yep, nothing really surpasses that feeling of bitching about high gas prices and how the gov't should do something about it (ranging from taking over the oil companies to invading sovereign nations....whoops....) rather than take responsibility for one's actions.

A small sign of encouragement though, it sure looks like more and more people are slowing down on the freeways here. I'm no longer (seemingly) the only car doing 55 mph (~ 90 kmh for those in countries with units of measurements not based on the foot size of late kings) and the general speed of traffic seems to have slowed a bit.

I hope motorists continue to slow down the pace a bit. It is the easiest/laziest thing they can do to enact a change. Carpooling would be the next easiest step followed by mass transit. Of course, switching to a more fuel efficient vehicle helps too, but I'd rather see the behavior change first and THEN switch to a more efficient vehicle, with the hopes that the behavior pattern continues.

Yeah...and I'd like a pony for Xmas too...

I agree, more drivers are at my speed, more obvious carpools plusi observe alot more prius's on the road and a huge increase in motorcyclists.

Yeah, I've seen an almost exponential increase in Prii here too. When I bought mine last year, I counted around six or so, now I couldn't even tell you. I just know I see at least two different ones every day (that is, not the same ones over and over). I've also seen an enormous increase in people riding bikes and motorcycles. -But I really can't say I've noticed people slowing down at all. I'll do the speed limit and almost always have someone on my bumper too. The only marked difference I've seen with other drivers is more road rage.

 

i agree most people will DO NOTHING, until it hits 6 bucks a gallon here in USA..look at EU for example only recently are protest starting, and for the most part fuel/petro cost over 6 bucks gal USD.

Here in las vegas we have many many many trucks and SUV's..and alot are lifted beyond bigfoot proportions..everyone drives the same..race to redlights, drive 80mph on hwy just in time to have to slow down due to traffic, while i just merge and blow by them at 60 or slower..to be caught in traffic myself, half a mile up.

my eye's noticed these monsters on the road, and the complete waste before prius, but since i bought prius..it has been set in stone and now it's all i see on the road..it will take alot more then 4.28 a gallon to slow people's roll.
