Ranchogirl - Did you call Longo Toyota? Are they selling at a premium over MSRP too?

I did, they said they are not charging over MSRP, but they said they have 250 people (who have put down deposits) on the waiting list and the wait is 4-6 months. Whether that's true or not it didn't sound too encouraging.

That is me also. I don't intend to pay MSRP, much less more.

Ditto here too...that's why we just went ahead and traded our '04 MPV on a Honda Oddy. Got a great deal on it (unlike the reaming I would take on a Prius...) and it will serve as my family's one vehicle for a while because we managed to pull off a private party sale of my '05 Element EX 4WD the same weekend! So...I'll be saving the car payment and insurance and other expenses to buy a nice Prius or Prius competitor when things have calmed down or at least evened out a bit...I'm not playing the Wii game on an expense as large as a Prius.

Ranchogirl.. I know where there is a 2008 Red #6 in Denver.. it's thru a broker.. The price will be MSRP + tax, which should be $28,404 + tax. There will be no hidden fees!

    want to travel?

I just checked Yahoo Autos to see what is the going price on an 08 used Prius. I have an 08 I bought in Jan with 5000 miles on it. I saw dealers all over the US charging $33,000 for the same model ( Package #5 ) I have - used. I didn't even pay close to that.

Try edmunds.com and do the truValue Pricing and then let them have someone email you. If you need to get a fake email address. I realize things changed but I got mine at slightly over invoice last summer this way.

    +1

And, I'm hoping they don't try to make up their MSRP pricing by completely hosing me on my trade.

    Cheers,

You're a little behind the times. Walnut Creek Toyota hasn't sold a Prius for under MSRP for more than 6 weeks now. Trust me. I know. I contacted Katie at the end of May and she told me that they'd had 100 Prius's on the lot just weeks before and in one weekend, the weekend eveyrone freaked out, they were all sold. The best she could offer me was MSRP and an estimated 6 week wait.

You have no idea what you're talking about. That might have been the case up until the end of April, but by the middle of May, they were *ALL* gone. I know. I've called every dealership in the Bay Area multiple times with absolutely no luck. The best deal I've found after weeks and weeks of searching is $150 off MSRP and an 8 week wait. Katie at Walnut Creek offered a slightly shorter wait but only at MSRP.

She most certainly has. I called her at the end of May and told her that I'd seen a number of forum members recommend her and that I was really glad to find a dealer that would sell for invoice. She broke the news to me that that may have been the case up til the end of April, but no longer. Now it's MSRP plus a 6 week wait. At least their not price gouging like many of the other dealers.

I ended up putting a deposit down at another bay area dealer for $150 under MSRP but an 8 week wait. I figured that would give me enough time to assess if 2009 will have any worth while changes and if there's a sudden drop in oil(unlikely) might leave me in a place to make a better deal since the deposit is refundable. If not, then at least I locked in a deal in case oil goes the other direction, up (most likely).

It's a crap shoot. So many people are doing that that when I see a bargain pop up on Craigslist(checking about every 2 minutes all day long) with a website watcher program, I email or call and the Prius is always sold within minutes. Apparently people are so desperate that their willing to commit to buying sight unseen. I'm not preprepared to do that. I need to see and drive a vehicle and probably spend a lot of time checking it out. If it's still under warranty and clean title, then I'll spend less time checking it out provided service records are handy proving that the required maintenance was done to keep the vehicle in warranty.

Since I look at craigslist often, I see what's really going on. Someone posts a Prius or Insight for a decent price because they priced it based on kbb. They suddenly get 5000 emails and their voice mail box fills up in 10 minutes. Then the add disappears and is magically reposted later at a much much higher price. It makes sense. It's what I'd do to.

I did that through edmunds. I was supposed to receive hassle free quotes. Instead, I received emails asking me to come in and make a deal. I emailed back that I was supposed to receive a quote online. *NONE* of the dealers that edmunds contacted on my behalf gave me a quote. Later, edmunds sent out a survey. The first question on the survey was did I receive a quote via email. My answer of course was no. I gave a dissatisfactory response to every question as they were all sort of related.

I also called every dealer in Sacramento as my commute takes me through Stockton. If you know of a dealer that is offering discounts below MSRP now and you're info is not 6 weeks out of date, I would seriously appreciate a reference.

    Thanks.
