"Friends" PriusChats' new social networkin'

Its a sort of virtual existential validation daniel. You don't have to exchange rings or locks of hair or anything so the commitment factor is pretty low. I think its not quite meaningless, and its mostly harmless, so try befriending someone ...

 

I just asked Daniel to be my friend.

 

If you friend me you will get endless happiness as a reward. Or something of more tangible value if you choose, but either way you'll have to come to my place to collect.

 

Okay. So it doesn't mean anything at all. It's pointless. And since I consider everyone here to be my friend, I'll ignore all requests to be labeled as such. Thanks.

 

Wow, that is just...wow.

Why not just play along? I mean, it's harmless, and goofy...what harm can it do to just accept all requests as well? I mean, in the big scheme of things, one can just participate and who cares, right?

I do not know. I just think it's neat, and harmless.

 

So. How do we refuse an invitation? I've got two permanent "notifications" because I can't refuse their invitation to be my friend. I can simply not accept it. (BTW I don't know these people hence the no thanks.)

Never mind. The "refuse" didn't work with just one, but when I checked both today it worked. (No offense, but I'm in the "selective" group above.)

 

I also post on a web site that uses this same bulletin board software, and over there, they give each other Frubals... THAT took a while to figure out!

Anyway, I asked Daniel to be my friend... now I'm going to cry, because he's refused me.

I likes friends. In the 'real' world, I am so busy, I have very little real friends. However, I will be meeting with patrickindallas today, so there is a connection between here and the real world.

 

Patrickindallas is imaginary...like all the people on here.

Whether you're befriending small children or just adults of short stature I can't tell, but rest assured your internet friends are VERY big.

 

I have not refused either of you. I have just decided not to play this game. Friendship, for me, is something real and important. This silly game seems to devalue the real meaning of friendship. I'm merely ignoring it. (The first "friend" request I got came from someone I'd never even heard of.)

 

It's a Brave New World of internet connections out there! It's worth trying out a friendship or 2. In an odd way, one's personal manner actually does come through. At the least, the 'friendships' are a way of pursuing items that don't apply to the whole big Prius family.

The friendship request from someone you never heard of is rather weird, I'd agree on that.

 

I regard everyone I have a civil interaction with here as a friend, of a sort. It's the assignment of the meaningless and pointless "friend" label that I object to. As far as I can tell, nothing happens when one assigns that label except that the person is added to a list called "friends." To me, the word "friend" is too important to be used in a silly and meaningless game. It devalues the real meaning of the word.

 

i'm with the points crowd- let's bring those back.

 

Daniel, my friend...no, I can't say that...I mean acquaintance...no, we've never met...uhh...Daniel, my fellow poster...

 

That's one way of looking at it, Daniel.

Myself though, I look at it as the kind of people I gravitate towards and would want to hang around, given the chance in real life. They are also out of the group of people I respect most, who teach me and whom I enjoy most.

In life and in this forum, I don't consider anyone that has a civil interaction with me as a friend, I'm not so loose with that definition.

Not everyone I respect or gravitate towards or enjoy on PC is on my friend's list, simply because I haven't invited all of them yet. And there is no particular order in inviting them either. If I remember to invite, I do and I will.

My offer of friendship is not cheap, meaningless or pointless, nor is it a chance to simply raise the numbers. Once the chance to meet these folks in real life, you can be sure I will search them out and find out more about them, but for now through this forum and their posts/PM's we make friendship like in any other facet of life.

By the way, I have actually talked on the phone with, shared ideas, and have currently running projects via PM's with some people here. It's not all fruitless.

All the friends I added I met with at the NJ prius Greenfest meetup. I have even posted pictures of me on my profile. I am starting to use this like my myspace,lol.
I welcome anyone who wants to friend request me or even chat with me.
