Happy New Prius Owner

    Yesterday I picked up my Barcelona Red 2008 Touring #6 with tint, toyoguard pkg, carpet pads, and rear bumper protector. All exactly right except the rear bumper pad. That was forgotten, but will be installed on Wednesday.

    Finished programming the garage door opener, the audio system, the GPS system, and working up nerve to try the bluetooth system tomorrow. Had a bit of a lengthy argument with the GPS system. I live at a house with street number 20. The GPS kept telling me it wasn't there and as such could not be recognized. I lied to the GPS and told it I lived at number 10. The GPS accepted that, and I settled for the compromise. The sound system is great and I have enjoyed that too.

    Have about 55 miles on the new Prius now and it is a pleasure to see all the gas pips still in place. Had this been my old beloved monster SUV it probably would have used a quarter tank. Now I've just got to forget what I paid for the thing.

    Surprised, a little, at the relative comfort and roominess of the interior. All in all, I like it! I was a little surprised at the acceleration capability. It's comforting to know it is there if needed. I was also pleased with the color and clarity of the rear view TV. I have a steep kind of long driveway, and I couldn't see the street without a lot of twisting and raising up in the seat before. Now - just a perfect wide angle color picture of what or what's not there.

    I'm looking forward to a trip to Montogomery, AL soon as the mileage passes 500 miles break-in time. I want to see how the tractor trailers effect it at 65 mph or less. By that time I should also be a little more skilled in efficient operation of the Synergy System.

    I'm glad to finally have one. I am equally glad to have this excellent forum with access to knowledgable and articulate people to whom I can turn with the inevitable minor concerns and question that will come along. Thank you in advance.:)

    You can set your Home location to geographic coordinates, not just an address. Some people, however, prefer a not-quite-accurate location so it's not so easy to find your home, though you'd know when you're close. Feel free to ask questions if a Search doesn't find what you're looking for here.

    Doesn't the NAV have a "Save This Location" function? This allows you to pull into your driveway, save the location, and gets you back every time.

    Kayaker, you can save any location, but saving a Home location makes it super easy to get out of a twisty labyrinthian maze found in most suburbs. You have to look up a saved location, Home is the first remembered destination, shown on the main Dest screen..

    I repeat, can't you just "save this location" as your HOME?

    PLUS, it's the easiest voice command: GO HOME


    And yes, KayakerNC, the HOME location can be attained from many options; present position, co-ordiantes, address etc.

    It may take 'til 5000 to see increased mpg as a result of break-in, but getting there is half ... No ALL the fun:) Yes, PC is a great resource. Have a great time - and Congratulations!

    congrats on the new car, we have had ours only 10 days and we love it, have added: shark fin, back bumber gaurd, window tint, mud flaps, dash cover, window deflectors, hood deflector, we just love it, and its fun to drive!:D

    I was pointing some better options for setting the HOME location, since the OP compromised by using a close address, rather than his own address which was not in the data-base.:fish2:

    I don't think it's a good idea to program your address as "home" as it would give a car thief your address. And as a bonus, you've programmed homelink to open the garage door so the thief could get into your house with little or no effort. Just my $0.02.

    In my case that would be irrelevant because there are other documents (insurance, registration, etc.) that would lead any would-be thief right to my door. That's a good point about the homelink, but I suspect you could just disconnect your opener until there you found time to re-code it.

    I don't have statistics to back me up, but I'm guessing the Prius would be a tough car to steal.

    Good point, and thanks for the thought. The garage is free standing and separate from the main house. I gave up my Harley so all they could get there would be some junk. It certainly would be smart though, to program another close-by address as home destination. Thanks again.

    It's one thing for the car thief to have to find your house based on documents in your glove compartment and in giving them turn by turn directions on your nav system. Also, you are assuming you discover the car theft almost immediately and thus have time to disconnect your garage door opener before a thief can enter your house. Chances are the car thief has a good head start on you by the time you discover your car is missing. Just my opinion.
