I just finished putting the DICE Silverline into my '08 Prius. I took some pictures as I did the install and made an attempt at putting together an illustrated guide, basically showing how I did it. I also took some pictures of a few of the MFD screens showing the DICE unit in "MP3" and "satellite" mode.

Sorry that I had to break up the file into 4 pieces- the server wouldn't let me upload it as one file.

I hope you all find it useful.

Just thought I would help out and convert this to a pdf for those that may not have MS Office. After finding this I may just tackle the install myself..

Just out of curiosity, how did you get my 17mb .doc file (Word) down to only a few hundred kb's as a .pdf file? Did your conversion program do that automatically? I had a lot of difficulty trying to upload that file and couldn't figure out, for the life of me, how to make my 17mb file smaller!

    Thanks,

    Cobraz-

I think you directed that question at me and unfortunately, I don't know for sure.

This may be a rather stupid question, but where does the Ipod get it's power? Is it through the docking cable that goes to the Dice box? Thanks!!!

Thanks for the quick reply! Is there any negative side to the product that you've seen (or heard)?

Honestly, I've only been playing with the unit for a few days now, but I'll have to admit that I was slightly disappointed with what the unit can do. For example, for a guy like me who is pretty computer and gadget literate, I find the interface on the MFD pretty confusing, especially at first as it is not very intuitive. Frankly, I'm still trying to figure the thing out. For example, if you look at page 9 of the guide, the upper left picture is basically the "default" screen you're looking at when using the iPod. You would think that pressing the "RAND" button would randomly play the songs in whatever folder you're in. Nope, or at least it's not working for me. Also, when I e-mailed DICE for technical support, no one answered my e-mail, which is part of the reason I created that install manual in the first post of this thread.

On the plus side, there aren't a lot of choices as far as integrating your iPod with your Prius, and the DICE box is $100 cheaper than Vais. It does keep your iPod charged, and once you get used to the awkward interface it does allow you to control your iPod, with limitations, through your MFD. This is convenient and probably safer than dinking around with your iPod itself while you are driving (using the AUX plug in the center console).

Anyway, those are my admittedly uneducated observations. I think there are some threads in this section that talk about the DICE and Vais in more detail.

    Thanks for your work!

Can we still use the CD player with the DICE unit install??

We have to unplug the Ipod to play a CD???

So how would you say the ipod just acts like it adds new folders to whatever CD is currently in the cd player? When you select the folder list doyou see the current CD as well as the contents of your ipod?

Good question. I just went out to my car to check. You don't have to unplug the iPod to play a CD but you do have to press the "DISC/AUX" button on your stereo to switch between using the DICE module interface on the MFD and CD changer interface on the MFD. It seems to switch pretty easily between the CD interface and the DICE interface. The DICE module remembers where you left off on the song you were playing before you pressed the "DISC/AUX" button, the CD changer does not.

When you press the "DISC/AUX" button, the MFD completely switches between either only the CD changer mode or only the DICE module mode.

The DICE (or even the VAIS) plugs into the same port as the Sirius (or XM). Fortunately they come with a "Y" connector (at least my DICE did). One end plugs into the cable going to the DICE, one to the radio and the remaining one plugs into the satellite radio.

ualdriver, that's a good set of instructions. I use mine in SAT mode as it tells what each button on the MFD does, plus you can use the tuning knob to speed through songs and playlists.

ualdriver (or anyone else in the know),

Pardon my ignorance but I have a few "dumb" questions about the DICE unit also. I want to install an HD radio in my Prius and was told the DICE unit is the best way to go in the Prius. You folks however are talking about a DICE “ipod†interface. Are these one and the same or something else. While I do have a mp3 player it is not an ipod brand player. I also have a 2006 with pkg 8 which has an “aux†input already. Can you sort this all out for those of us who have no understanding of HD radio units. I just want to improve the audio quality of the AM and FM stations I listen to that transmit in HD digital format. Do you know if the unit shown in the Prius shop is an HD radio or only an interface for ipods??? Thanks for any information in advance for those of us puzzled by all these HD units.

Take a look at DICE Store: HD DICE for Toyota, Lexus, Scion to see some information on DICE's HD integration. The Silverline is designed for integrating iPods to the MFD only.

I just converted with Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Professional, it gives you an option to convert to a lower quality product and optimize it. I just figured it would simplify the download for some. I also have to say you did an excellent job on this install document. Was happy to help out with it.:D

Thanks for the kudos. The hardest part of making the whole guide was trying to figure out how to upload it to this forum! The file was so big (17mb) that even though the forum guidelines say you can upload a .doc or .pdf file, it doesn't work until the file size gets down to a few megabytes. I wish I could have had you convert it 2 days ago when I was trying to figure out how to make the file smaller!!! Thanks again.

Also Word isn't really designed to store a lot of imges. As such the images are in a bitmap format which is not compressed. Adobe is designed to handle images so it will imbed the images compressed. This is the same as when you have a .bmp file that's 3 mb and you have the same file as a .jpg and it's like 100k in size. The .jpg is actually a compressed file. :)
