Simply put, I won't ever shop at Fremont Toyota again.

In the showroom, they had a Prius with package #1, the lowest, not even Smart key or backup camera, but had heated leather seats and sunroof put in by some non-Toyota company ...

    asking price? >> $40,000

    Think that's bad?

I sat in the car for the heck of it .... the ergonomics of the driver seat were seriously screwed up. The had put in tons of lumbar foam such that shoulders do not contact the upper part of seatback at all and the headrest was maybe 4 or 5 inches away from back of my head.

That's truly jaw-dropping. Can they really expect to get that price, or will they play the game of being so 'gracious' as to drop the price to normal levels when a customer shows interest?

My wonderful "economy package" Prius has none of any of the stuff you mentioned, and am thrilled with every bit of it. In Jan., I drove it off the floor for about 21K.

The sunroof might add about 1K to the basic price (certainly not jacking it up to 40K). There've been a few threads here about aftermarket sunroofs leading me to think that they may not seal as well as one would like.

The accessories listed driver lumbar support, but the aftermarket company messed up the ergonomics in my opinion.

i recently visited fremont toyota on my prius service tour
(i got stuck with these pre paid maintenance coupons and have been visiting random toyota dealerships in the bay area to cash them in)
( so far i have visited sunnyvale toyota, stevens creek toyota, dublin toyota, fremont toyota and piercy toyota)

i am really impressed with fremont toyota's service department

    1) the place was slower with normal, there was only three customers including myself in the waiting area at opening time, two of the three took shuttles, and the oil change and tire rotation only took 45 minutes to an hour, and i was finished
    2) they got this weird coffee bar, starbucks is free, but everything else is on the menu board, kind of like a small 1 person restaurant
    3) the wifi tested to 6 mbits downstream, which is a lot for a toyota dealers wifi
    4) even that i use these coupouns i always have to go to the cashier to get my keys back and have to wait in line with everyone else, at fremont toyota the service advisor just gave me my keys back and all the paperwork. and i was out the door.
    i was quite amazed

sunnyvale toyota tried to put a cabin air filter @ 15,000.00 and fearing the prepaid check would bounce i made them cross it off

piercy toyota has little banner type ads on thier invoice reccomending i pay 149.99 to flush my fuel induction (@ 32,246 miles)
and to flush my cooling system @ $166.20 (32,246 miles)

But of course:D How else will they make money? Certainly not by following Toyota's maintenance schedule:D

They don't make it on major repairs at a Toyota Dealer.
