Hopefully I can view some responses by tomorrow at work should I pick up it up, but will I be able to fit a 9x12 rug (Rolled up of course) in the Prius? I know I obviously have to put the back seats down, but will it also take up space in the front?

    The car is awesome, btw.

You'll want to take the head-rest off the passenger side, lay down the passenger seat, before you lay down the back. Even then, a 9-foot anything isn't going to fit. The distance from the lip of the trunk-area to the dash is just about 8 feet, so you'll need to roll with the hatch up.

Hopefully they roll the carpet up so that it's shortest. Do you know what the diameter of the roll will be? I can't imagine it being too wide, but it could be a concern. Assuming that's the case, it'll hang out a bit.

Bring a bungee cord so you can strap the hatch down snugly, and drive slow, and you should be alright as long as you're not traveling too far.

I got a few 8 ft shoe moldings in--which fell within about 6" of the dash. Bend that carpet roll in the middle some, and 9 ft should fit in lengthwise.

Yes. I order to fit it in, you remove the headrest of the passenger seat, move the passenger seat all of the way forward, then recline it all of the way back. Put down the back seats and you should be able to get the rolled up rug in. I'll assume you're rolling it up to be 9 ft long, not 12.

just unroll it, and fold it. one fold the short way and two folds the long way should give you a 4.5x4 ish square. put down the back seats shove it in the back and off you go, no monkeying with the front passenger seat required.

    Thanks everyone for their input.

Hopefully, the rug won't be thick enough so I can fold it up once and then roll it..

I fit a 8x10.5 rug in mine, rolled but not folded up, with the front passenger seat down. I'll bet there was at least a foot left over.

I think you could make the 9 foot, but it will be close and you would have to put the front seat back down and put it in diagonally. I have carried 8 foot long lumber several times with some room left over.

you'll get about 10 ft if it's at an angle. I carry 10 ft pieces of pvc.. but they rest on the dash. I wouldn't be worried.. just carry a sheet with you just in case it's going to rub the dash. don't want abrasive marks...

folding is an excellent tip ;)

Driving with the hatch open will suck in some carbon monoxide. Open all the windows for fresh air.

Most rugs have an abrasive side,be sure to roll or fold soft side out.

    OR . . .

You can always do what I did in 2006 with my father's Jeep. I had to move a PVC pipe, so I put it in, balanced on the dash, and slammed the rear shut.

Darn thing went flying out through the windshield.

Of COURSE I had to do with with my father's vehicle, right?
