I have a deposit down at a dealer for $150 off MSRP on a touring #6. It's in CA and the out the door price including a TTL + Doc is $31365. MSRP is $28804 - $150 = $28654. The deal is secured with a deposit and a document that breaks down everything and includes the out the door total price.

It's from a dealership that has a stated policy of selling every car under MSRP with no exceptions.

Yet, today, in Craigslist, I noticed the same dealer is selling a used base 2005 packagee #1(meaning no additional options) with 30K miles for $30K before fees.

This makes me nervous that they are supposedly going to sell me a new one for way way less than this used one if you adjust for options making it an apples to apples comparison.

Is the used one on the lot ready 4 delivery (used base 2005 with 30K miles for $30K = no thanks) - some don't want to wait for a new one, you sound alright just keep tabs on the dealer.

Yes. On the lot ready to go and Toyota Certified. It's just strange that a dealer that limits themselves to selling for under MSRP would sell for over MSRP on used cars.

Is the used 2005 equipped with CA carpool stickers? That is worth $3K or more...

Ahh. Yes, it does have the HOV tags. So that probably explains it. It's still $9K over retail bluebook though.

Good to hear that someone is selling for below MSRP. Which dealer in Ca is doing this? I have been hard pressed to find very many selling at MSRP?

Of course, there is no MSRP for a used car. The nature of a used car sale is that the dealer sets the price at the maximum he thinks he can get. Or at least he should.

KBB uses the term "Retail MSRP" for used car values that are being retailed. Then there's "Private Party", and "Trade In".

Which is nothing more than their educated estimates.
