Oh it's available. Just in very small numbers.
I sure wish some car company with a large production infrastructure in place would do this.

DOH! My bad. I did look at the others.
Where you said "not all available yet" I read "not available yet".
My apologies, I should know better than to post without wearing my glasses;)

if talking about concept cars, they sure missed a bunch...what about the CityZenn?? its just as available as most on this list....the Think is another that is ALREADY here...hmmm i dont know...and to list ones that are never to be like the EV one?... makes me think the writer dreamed up the number 17 and then scraped his limited mind to fill the article...what about an article with some research behind it?

Did you notice the absence of a very large......concept?

No Volt mentioned. Perhaps the author knew the Volt isn't an electric car.....it's a hybrid.

That is one of the few production cars. Its a NEV (neighborhood electric vehicle) which some call a glorified golf cart.

I am not sure why they put in the one off concept cars in there, there are a ton more of them then that. Keeping it just to production and future production would have been best.

The NEVs are limited to 25 mph and roads that are posted less than 40 mph. That way they don't need to meet crash tests like highway-capable vehicles. Makes for a much cheaper entry into the marketplace - ZENN started that way, now they're working on a highway-capable vehicle.

3-wheeled vehicles are classed as motorcycles and also don't need to meet crash testing to be certified for roadways, but they can be driven at whatever speed they're capable of and on highways, unlike the NEVs. None of those vehicles were listed here (like the Corbin NMG, Aptera, Green Vehicle's Triac, etc.) Many of their manufacturers claim they are quite safe, but those claims haven't been independently tested.

I agree. Smart EV wasn't in there, the GEM (a NEV by Chrysler, built in ND for the last ten years) or any of the Xebra models, but then there's concept vehicles that don't even have pictures for them. I think this should have been titled "first 17 electric cars I found".

Not all available LOL! Only 3 of the 17 are and I don't count the Tesla as it is over priced and under produced. The rest are NEV's or mostly impractical. Sorry for the attitude, I guess I'm still pissed that the City of Kingsburg, CA wouldn't sell me or anybody for that matter their Rav4 EV with only 12K miles on it. At the end of their lease last year they turned it back into Toyota to be crushed, the City Manager there is a PUTZ!

dont get me wrong i would love to have an EV, but as of now, nothing is being produced to fill my needs of a daily commuter

the tesla is awesome in all aspects but the "range" or lack there of

the smart EV would make a good city driver, but would suck at hiway speeds, and "range" may also be a factor

nothing yet that can haul 5 comfortably with ample trunk space, great range, and great crusing power like the Prius and its super efficient Hybrid system

    Lots of claims.
    Few in Production.
If in Production, few delivered, and if so, you would die in any sort of crash.
50 Percent of their power is generated from coal.
    I'm happy with my ride.

So your daily commute is more than 200 miles?

Keep the Prius (or rent one) for road trips, most people can use the EV for daily commuting and shopping.

I agree. No EV meets my needs yet either.

But I see some potential in the next few years. My Prius will be 10 years old in 2015. That's my normal replacement cycle. While I'm sure I could keep it beyond that, I'll see what the EV market is at the time.

I'm hoping Tesla might have their sedan out around 2015.

True. But don't forget that you could put a solar array on your house and drive emissions free for ~2c/mi, compared to ~8c/mi in the Prius right now.
