[But first, I must 'qualify this post for the Main Prius Forum:]

    Are Prius drivers generous?

    Let's see . . .
[yep, that does it. ;) ]

    - - - -
[this is a copy of a post I put in Fred's . . . but Fred posts aren't in the running for TOTM consideration. :( ]

Unlike the doofus who tried to sell his US Presidential Election vote on Ebay . . .
USATODAY.com - Authorities halt man's eBay offer to sell vote

I am lobbying to pay for your vote for the first PriusChat Topic Of The Month award (July 2008) . . .
    http://priuschat.com/forums/topic-month/50939-topic-month-july-2008-a.html

I hereby pledge to take my winnings of the $25 gift certificate to the PriusChat Accessory Shop, DOUBLE IT, and make a $50 donation to the . . .

Shriner's Hospitals for Children research program.
And I will make the donation in honor of "Noble PriusChatters"!

    (CAUTION: Non-noble PriusChatters . . . those who don't vote for me . . . WILL NOT BE HONORED! ;) )
Shriners Hospitals for Children: How You Can Help

I will provide proof to Danny of making said donation. Until I do so (could be as late as 8/7/08 as I will be on vacation at a niece's wedding), he can withhold awarding me the badge of honor and $25 gift certificate. [of course he can! ;)]

If I fail to provide proof, he can erase my votes and award it to the next person in line.

SOOOOO . . . If you would like to help poor, unfortunate, sick children . . . just click on the [IMG] in the lower right corner of this post.

This is not a joke! It WILL happen . . . if YOU do your part. Just click!

Just curious, why do you have to get something out of it, to do something good?

I noticed you didn't vote for this thread. :(

So, out of some sort of principle, you won't support the children? :tsk:

[This whole thing is meant to be lighthearted and fun . . . and it will happen if enough people vote. Think of the children.]

He can't afford $50.00 on his own?

He needs to use this to guilt people into voting for him? (If you don't vote for me, the children will continue to suffer.)

He can use it as a backwards slap in the face for those that don't vote for him? (The non-noble.)

He can use the votes as some sort of justification for the position on other posts regarding support and popularity for his views?

It's tied to his ego? Notice the newly edited sig and dig.

My Mother had a perfect anecdote regarding Hitler on this, but of course mentioning the H word is an immediate thread killer.

If you can't see the humor in it, my apologies to you.

I visioned this as a chance to have people force me to add an additional $50 to what I normally donate each year - and I figured the Shriner's Hospitals for Children would be a worthy and yet non-controversial choice.

So far, the answer to the question of "Are Prius drivers generous?" is a resounding NO!

    . . . be it monetarily or otherwise. :(

Patrick, perhaps you should have tried a different approach.

    Something like,
Vote for me or I will shoot this dog!

My first thought was that it WAS a joke, kind of a satire on those sleazy comeons so prevalent lately: "Use Your American Express Card and We'll send $1 to the Starving Children League". The disingenuity and imposition of false guilt in such ploys is truly disgusting.

But it appears you're in earnest: you really think it's "virtuous" to solicit an unearned ego-stroking (TOTM-ship) if you contribute a (rather paltry) $25 of your own money to a charity. There is humor in that, but not the kind you think.

Why not give the charity $500 out of pocket, anonymously, and if you believe the charity deserving of further support from us, simply ask for it unfettered by some cheap ploy to inflate your own ego. Gad.

Kind of like the pastor the church fell for from a wealthy burb, we have all the kids collect and donate their change for a year. Then he comes before us and tell us he doesn't understand why the Lord would want to take care of the starving while he holds out his hand for a speaking payment!

When I was 'thunking up' this thread, I considered something like that . . . but I decided to make it something GOOD.

Seeing the negativity I have received from big time haters - I had considered adding a poison pill to my offer of, "If I do not win, I will donate that $50 to the John McCain in '08 Campaign :p " . . . but that would be a lie, as I never contribute to ANY political campaign.

    But . . . I do own a gun. (hint, hint)

I never contribute to campaigns either, I'm not a hater, just one of those people that contribute and don't want attention. Been a volunteer for the Red Cross, raised money for Retinitis Pigmentosa, worked food booths for RP, donate to the Elks Crippled Children's Hospital, Shriners Burn Center and on and on, and never asked for recognition, so I think I'm good.

I'd rather see a good informative Prius-related thread by a star member get TOTM.

Just what is a "star member"????

Currently, of the top five vote 'getters', only two are informative Prius-related threads - "Mouse Proofing" and this thread (because it asks, "Are Prius drivers generous?" ).

Even though it was placed in the Main Prius Forum, the "what are "nominations"?" thread has noting to do with Prii.

And two of the other non-Prius related threads were started by Danny. What's he going to do? Give himself an award or two and pocket $25 or $50? :p ;)

Is TOTM a popularity contest? Much like the "Friends"????

"Is TOTM a popularity contest" is one of the questions about the TOTM Award my thread is designed to ask/answer.

Danny's posts about TOTM are big vote getters. Yet this thread - also about TOTM - is met with scorn and ridicule.

If a member of the Liberal's Mutual Admiration Society had thought to do a "I'll pay for your vote" thread - GUARANTEED it would have received more votes.

I have nothing against TOTM, but people should realize the winners may have won for reasons other than posting a great Prius-related thread.

There are three awards to be given away. And even I voted for one of those other threads.

There should be plenty of love to go around.

"Star members" use to be those who had the most "PriusChat Points."
A totally goofy and fun way of awarding others for whatever reason . . . even for begging for points. :)

    But . . .
While you are contemplating the above . . .

    Think about the children. ;)
And the fact that I have a gun.

[And NO! I'm not threatening children. :nono: ]

[IMG]I don't care what anyone else says. I think Patrick's idea is a hoot. Props for a sense of humor & having something good come out of it if it works.

I'll give him my vote if he will send an equal amount, $50, to the US Treasury, to pay down the debt. :D

Thanks for the bump and good words. :)

I bet you also get the satire of the New Yorker cartoon cover of Obama and his wife. Even though it may rub some people the wrong way, it's meant to expose the underlying folly of what is being shown.

And yes, giving to a good cause is a good thing . . . even if it is the result of a folly.

In my case, that happens quarterly.

Unfortunately you can't vote for my thread four times. (or even once) ;)

Not good enough, you don't pay enough, support your beliefs. :D
