I bought a ScanGauge a couple months ago, then got one for my Dad for his 75th birthday. He was pretty excited about that, but not too impressed with the manual. So I rewrote it to be what I think is a little more readable, easier to find what you want, and uses a bigger font. I left out some of the details, but where necessary refer to pages in the original manual (I wanted to keep it short and not too intimidating).

But in so doing, I found some things for myself I didn't get when I first read it. I wondered about some people's comments about SOC (state of charge), now I found out the xgauge option allows you to enter vehicle-specific gauges, which for the Prius includes SOC, HV battery voltage and current. Also, you can program a trip meter to act as a gauge, so you can see it along with the gauges instead of flipping screens.

So if you didn't get thru the original manual or found it difficult, give this a try and give me some feedback on how to improve it.
    Thanks.

I just bought a scanguage and am as unimpressed with the user manual as your dad.

I am looking forward to reading your translation, but the link won't work for me.:(

Boy, what timing. I found a minor mistake, so I changed it, deleted the old attachment and put up the new attachment. You must've tried to download it in the 30-40 seconds between working attachments. Should be good now.

Happy Birthday to your dad. I too, turned 75 on the 26th June. I also have a scangauge manual, which I find imposing, regarding its use. I tried to download your attachment, but it seems priuschat has a problem. Can I impose on you to send a copy to me at: [email protected]. I am dying to see and read your improvements, esp how to use it for trips, etc.
    Thank you very much.

Just updated it, now has a section on using a trip field as a gauge, and adding specialized XGauges (eg. SOC, Battery current draw, etc.)

My Scanguage should be here on Monday. I'll just use your manual instead of theirs. :)

I do have to say the people I spoke with on the phone at LLC? and via emails were very helpful and curteous. :)

For those looking to access the file, you must right-click and "save-as" then open the file from your computer. Trying to open it directly from this thread didn't work for me.

    Nerf,

Nice job! A minor nit - the page k 0f N in the footer needs to be updated to show the total number of pages in the second position.

    Nice job!

One suggestion: Under the Installation section, you should prominently mention that prior to initial connection, the vehicle needs to be on ("Ready" mode for the Prius), not just in acc mode. Doing otherwise (as I and others can attest to) can result in CAN communication errors and scary error codes/warnings. The owner's manual that comes with the SG does tell you to turn the vehicle on prior to startup, but it's pretty easy to gloss over that tidbit.

Thanks for this pointer, as I noticed when connecting the Scangauge I was always in the OFF mode and would get the error you mention, and yes I read the manual and that fact didn't seem to register.

Hmm, I wonder how that happened. I remember it was okay when I put it in. I wonder if there was a problem when I converted it to PDF.

Interesting, I hadn't run into that.
    Thanks

    <edit - I put in both suggestions/corrections to the document>

Thanks for the doing the manual so it is easier to read!

Now if I could only get the Battery Voltage (BTV) code to work. Apparently they don't work for everyone. We have a 2006 and 2007 Prius and the BTV code will not work with either vehicle. I have tried a dozen times with no success.

Did you try using Dan's codes? I believe he has one for battery voltage that is different from the one listed on the Linear Logic sight. He also has gas and brake pedal position, both of which I have found very useful. Plus a few others that are cool to play around with.

I like your scan gauge book. It reads easier with the bigger type. I may be in my 50's but I needs thats bigger type sometimes! Thanks!!

Do you have version 3.15* (compared to 3.14 or 3.15) of the ScanGauge? That apparently has a problem with some of the passive codes, of which BTV is one. I think you can find the version # with MORE>MORE>VERSION - drat, something else I need to put in there!

Obviously you also want to double-check the numbers you've entered, make sure they match what's in the table. (I think the RTX field of BTA had an error on their website early this year, but it's been corrected, and I don't think it affected the BTV).

Dan does have more codes (check out this thread), but not another one for the BTV.

I have a SG2 with 3.15. I have checked, rechecked and checked many times over. I inputed the correct codes but BTV still won't work.

My ScanGuage II shuts down when the ICE turns off at stop lights, making me push the power button (not terribly safe, since the guage is installed in the little compartment below the radio). Any way to over-ride this?

Did you change the ScanGauge's mode to "hybrid"? I leave mine set to hybrid when I use it in the Olds.

There are a bunch of codes that won't work in mine. BTV is one, the one for pedal position is another, and a couple others. I though it was just me. I think there is a bug that affects some models of cars/guages or combinations thereof.

    Doc Willie,

I've read that the list of ScanGauge XGauges published at CleanMPG
is programming sensative. IIRC; they work for ScanGauge Version
    3.15 and earlier.

I'm on the road right now and don't have access to all my info, and I
hope my memory is serving me correctly on this.
