And what does how much taxes I pay have to do with donating money to the Shriner's Hospital?

    Remember,
It's not about taxes, religion, politics, ecology, human rights, or even whether or not you like me. It's about the children and whether or not Prius Drivers are big enough to overcome their petty differences.

    Are Prius drivers generous?
Are TOTM Awards a popularity contest?

EJFB . . . So far, your answer is, 'Prius drivers aren't generous and TOTM Awards ARE a popularity contest.' Why else would you be fighting me so much on this. ;)

I'm sure I give much more than you, and you want it to be a popularity contest. Ok you win, you are popular to yourself.

I think too many people are getting their undies in a twist about what Patrick's doing. If you don't want to vote, don't vote. Duh. No need to run him down or speculate on what kind of an ego trip he's on to do this. It's silly ... sort of like all the word games in FHOP.

I don't see eye-to-eye with him politically and we've butted heads in FHOPol, but it doesn't mean I can't see the fun in this. Who's it hurt? No one.

I'm just surprised I haven't seen votes from wildkow, amped & the others on that side of the political fence. What better way to stick it to us godless liberals? :)

I'll sweeten the pot a bit. If he wins the TOTM, I'll donate $50.00 of my own cash to the ACLU.

Note that I voted for him.

I cannot vote twice but if you give money to the ACLU I will have to give $50 to the Libertarians!

A star member might be someone who figures out a mod first and makes an instruction manual for others, reviews a lot of PriusChat products, welcomes newbs, contributes to good discussion, etc.

If the only thing you wanted to know was "Are Prius drivers generous?" you should have set up a thread asking people to donate $25 to the cause of their choice. What you are asking is "Of the few Prius drivers registered and active on Prius Chat, who have read this thread, who like the organization, and who don't care if the first TOTM on a PRIUS website is not even remotely linked to being about Prius, who will bother to respond to this thread, who know how to nominate a thread, are willing to generate votes for somebody else to give money that they didn't earn anyway." Is that what generous is? What about being generous with volunteering time, being a good family member, a good citizen, putting in more work than you're being paid for, etc.

People nominated that thread because it taught them how to nominate for TOTM. Without that thread, maybe half your nominators wouldn't have known what the hell it was you were asking for or how to do it!

So they were started by Danny, he is not an active member who also deserves Kudos? Who here made a thread telling Danny how awesome a job he does moderating and supplying the products for the shop, etc. Nominating his informative threads, even if they are just about TOTM or something else website-related would be a nice assurance to him I'm sure.

Popularity? How old are you? Popularity on a website forum? No one cares who has friends and who doesn't, it's a way for you to keep in touch with people you may have discussed Prius-related things, or to keep tabs on someone who's doing the same mod as you, etc. If ___ has a lot of friends, it's because (s)he has a lot of info and is nice enough to share it, not because (s)he may have been handsome/pretty in high school or (s)he made a thread bribing people to be their friends, etc.

That's because Danny's posts are about how to use the function and what it's all about. Pretty important! Your thread is about bribing people to nominate your thread so that you can so generously give money that was a gift anyway?

    Yawn!

So where do I collect my star? I've done all of those except review PriusChat products. So, does that now mean this this thread qualifies for consideration because I am a "star member"???

Because 'monetarily' isn't the only type of 'generous' a PriusChatter could be. ;)
I was also wondering if PriusChatters could be generous in overcoming their dislike for someone who has differing political views (remember . . . Popularity contest . . .). What better way to test the hypotheses than to sweeten the pot with something good happening if 'haters' can overcome their dislike for one another.
Proco has shown there are generous people.
Others, so far, have proven the opposite.
We just don't know the final ratio yet.
[My question to you: Are you for goodness, or are you for badness?]
As for asking people to donate . . . so far this thread is good for $100 worth . . . and I didn't have to ask. Unfortunately $50 of that is to political causes, and even that is ideologically 'balancing' each other out. Anyone care to balance out my $50 donation to a Childirens' Hospital with a donation to, say, an old folks home? ;)

But my OP DOES show people how to nominate a thread . . . that is why I placed the [IMG] thingy in my OP and told people where to find it in the lower right corner of my thread.
[EVERYONE: FEEL FREE TO GO BACK UP TO THE OP AND CLICK THAT THINGY. ;) ]
In my OP, I also placed a link to danny's thread . . . which may have caused people to vote for his thread too! . . . especially considering my thread is in the more heavily visited Main PriusChat Forum, and danny's isn't. And I have also voted for another thread. So please don't poo-poo my thread if informing people about TOTM is one of your criteria to qualify a thread as worthy of consideration.

I'm not sure if I had started a thread to thank danny . . . but I have replied on many of them, thanking not only him, but also the moderators, for their tireless work keeping PriusChat up and running.
    http://priuschat.com/forums/priusch...5761-priuschat-very-slow-today.html#post58455
And I even donated money to PriusChat when danny was asking for donations. At the time, danny was giving badges of honor under user names for those who donated. So, getting a badge of honor for making a donation isn't something new here on PriusChat. At least my donation(s) go to worthy causes(s).

If no one cares, how come do you have six friends? Did you tell them you don't care?
I am in my 40's . . . and I think the PriusChat 'Friends' thing is silly too. That is why I have not accepted any of the requests for friendship . . . even though I have been begged-to and threatened with banishment if I rejected his friends request.

"Friends" and TOTM are supposed to be fun, lighthearted, and not to be taken too seriously. That is why people have voted for my thread and have said it is funny.

Lighten up! And remember the children . . . and the ACLU (ouch!) . . . and the Libertarians!

Vote early, vote often! Only 10 days left to force Patrick to cough up 50 bucks so he can get a $25 gift certificate! [IMG][IMG]

I'm there Baby! Just thought I would wait awhile longer for the Godless Lib's to give themselves more rope. BTW, I got another $50.00 for SPE's worthwhile cause regardless if he wins.

Glad you could make it. Right now yours is the vote that's put SPE in the lead.

Thanks kow for the vote and another $50 pledge to a (this one being good) cause.

This thread is now responsible for $150 in spontaneous pledge donations to causes . . . three times more than my original $50 pledge to the Shriners.
And to think I didn't even have to ask. :)
This is probably a much better result than if I would "have set up a thread asking people to donate $25 to the cause of their choice."

    REMEMBER THE CHILDREN!!!!!

I'm not charging. I'm giving. AND SO ARE OTHERS! . . . that is if enough people click on the [IMG] in the lower right corner of the original post.

Be generous without costing yourself a dime.

    Oh . . . BIG TALKER!

You "sweeten the pot" and vote for the thread, then you take back your vote.

Does that now mean you hope my thread doesn't win so it won't cost you $50?
What else could explain your pulling away your vote. :tsk:

    Big talk, no walk.
(You CAN vote for more than one TOTM . . . and there are three awards.

Aye, you're right, I can vote for more than one, so I voted for this again.

But if anyone starts a thread about a monkey driving a Prius (with Youtube video), that WILL get my sole vote.
