Can HID be added to a standard pkg 3

All things are possible. Some things are just more difficult than others. Like putting toothpaste back into the tube. No, not that I can tell. At least, not a Toyoto option or accessory. Standard on Touring or added by Pkg#4 to Basic or Stantard. I believe their is someone here on PC adding them to a Canadian Prius non-Touring. And I believe the are aftermarkets. Are you sure you want them? I sort of wish I could have ordered our Touring w/o them. You may want to do a search on HID headlights to check out some of the posts regarding them. I'm personally not sure they're worth the additional replacement expense.

 

I actually like the HID lights more than I thought I would. The light quality is excellent, very white. It seems to illuminate objects much better. But the fog lamps are pathetic, really just a decoration. The question about upgrading the lights has been asked here frequently, but no one has posted anything practical that I remember.

 

I bet it can be done, but sorry I don't have an answer. I just wanted to tweak the cost analysis by saying that the HIDs are more energy efficient. Its my understanding that the engine would have to run *marginally* less to operate a car equiped with them. It would be novel to see someone present the mpg impact, assuming they were on all the time.

Yes, get them i have them on my GTI and i wont buy a car without them!! ordered a black PKG 4 for my wife
just so i would get the HIDS and bluetooth??

 

By the dealer, not for a sane price. By yourself, yes but it's spendy. You need to swap out the reflector, not just the bulb. Also various little black boxes.

 

I'm glad to hear that there are a number of members that feel they are worth it. We have gone to Silverstar Ultras on our 2000 Avalon, high, low and driving. They are really great, as our night vision is not what it used to be. We were enthused about the HID's until we read about some of the failures; and it doesnt seem that Toyota is stepping up to the problem. It's just a lot of money if their MTF is sub-standard on the Prius. I'm handy enough to change them myself and have the Bentley manual. It's just that I would have expected Toyota show more respect for the customer. We have had such a great experience with our Avalon. Toyota has come from a piece of c--p in the '60's, my father-in-law owned one, it never ran right, to today's best-of-breed. It won't last if they continue to ignore problems like the MTF on the HID's
