Well said, isisdave, hope your aren't being sarcastic, seems to be plenty of that here.

I think some people have an obsession with the cost of fuel and energy being sky high just so they can say "told ya so". (just an observation, not trying to be deming, but if the shoe fits, let me have it) If you touch on a subject you need a billion scientist to lend any credibility to an idea.

Don't get me wrong, Taking care of the environment, reducing footprint ect, thinking things through is good, but some times group-think can be paralyzing.

As far as getting a return on OUR,(not just MINE) investments, I couldn't agree more.

How can it be that Venezuela can Nationalize it's oil fields (some American) and we allow them to have refining in our contry.

We have gotten ourselves into a tight spot, now we need to do some-thing (a combination of projects) before the people who can do some thing are in the nursing home. The demographic numbers speak for themselves.

As far a subsidies, I think that's part of what has gotten us into this mess. Countries cut substidies, and oil drops. (don't mean for this to be a rant or a diatribe) Just trying to move the conversation along. At least we are talking and not shooting.

Hyper environmentally-conscious european nations such as Norway, Denmark, and England, aggressively drill off their shores for oil and gas, all nations do, except the U.S., 76% of Americans favoring exploration and production drilling off the east and west coasts of America, as well as, off Florida’s western coast in the Gulf of Mexico. "I quess we are all just Ignorant"..I do not appreciate name calling for expressing ones opinion

With increased domestic drilling in the U.S., the layers of international middlemen speculating on the global oil transcations can be eliminated, as the oil produced domestically in the U.S. would go straight to U.S. refineries, no middlemen transacting multiple speculative trades from wellhead to gas-pump while the crude is shipped from halfway around the world, or from Hugo Chavez, the wildman to the south in Venezuela.

International oil experts calculate that as much as half of the cost of a barrel of oil on the international market is speculative profit to the middlemen, their profit, our loss, so with greatly increased domestic production, not only will the increased supply drive down prices, but further, because of the elimination of the layers of middlemen. Congress will have to go to work on this, and 76% of Americans want them to (with only 20% against)

The minute Congress and the President institute the drilling, world oil prices will drop immediately, as the speculators who gamble far into the future will see that America is serious about increasing supply, to be used at home, taking American out of much of the bidding for international oil, thus dropping its price by less demand. And about 55% of Americans favor drilling more on the North Slope of Alaska

they also build and depend on nuclear power for a significant %of their needs.

something we should start doing now. i agree with mccain on this - build em and build em now. people dont realize that 95% of the spent fuel is recycled.

front page of either the NYT or WSJ --- oil in the arctic - reachable - at least 80 BILLION barrels and a Trillion CF or so or more of natural gas.

pelosi and reid are the hold ups at this point.

I favor working toward renewable, and clean energy. It seems better for the people than simply giving more tax dollars to big oil.

    Need it to make transition.

I understand many people want to keep the price high as to force change. Change shouldn't have to be force. Price should remain some what high, but not so haigh as to kill the American way of life. We haven't done any-thing in 30 years and now it's biting US.

All things considered, our demand should go down as our population ages, death to birth ratio. Unless we allow an un real amount of immigration, which could happen to prop up Social Security.

demand will increase significantly due to our + growth rate both internal and from external sources, our growing economy, the increasing use of electronic equipment, dont forget plug in cars - by the millions over the next 10 years, our general future is electronic and and the rest of the world is experiencing increasing demand and will no matter what we do. we all are competing for limited resources.

these stupid dems in wash dc... they want to sell some oil for the strategic reserves 50mil barrels... tell me.... dont these guys know that that represents about 2.5 days of our own use and then what happens - prices will readjust and we are now out that oil

only works if we replace that oil if oil prices drop and we can make a profit on the flip.

Wth is the delay with our pols getting a national program going of drilling - research - alternatives -- etc etc...

an apollo program for domestic energy production...

With the way Iran has been acting I wouldn't release a drop unless it came down to heating. (I think it's 2 1/2 months but I get the big picture)

A lot of the MKT jitters are being driven by the whole mess in the Middle East! Yes demand is up, but oil sure dropped when some countries lowered their subdidies. Sovreign funds aside. People don't understand that it's not just bin Laden, Iran has issued the Bush Admin an ultimatum, surrender to Islam or perish.

Most wars are fought over religion or resources. This one is both.

You are so correct. there are lots here that want iran to obtain nuclear weapons - if that happens, they will have lots of opportunity to see how well conservation works :mullet:

    Really?

I guess if they do obtain a nuclear warhead, they can use the missiles Reagan traded them (Iran/Contra anyone?) to launch an attack on us. Okay ... enough of that - back to your original statement:

Just who here wants Iran to obtain nuclear weapons?

just go the the other bb re: politics here to see whom dont see anything wrong with a nuclear iran.

interesting - iran was testing launching missiles off a barge last year - now with a missile with a 2500 mile range - put a few on a few tankers and presto -- make em go bang OVER NYC and or WASH DC and LONDON and the world comes to a stand still

1 st) your 50 mil is right, I thought you meant total stored. Passage was defeated. Thank God!

2 nd) What they where sold where 107 tons of small arms, anti tank, ati-aircraft misslies and some aircraft parts. We don't make scuds.

    Apples vs oranges

And yes there is documented proof of the tests off the barge and they are increasing the range of the missiles built with the aid of N Korea.

The point is, the people cheering for high oil and energy prices are not doing any-one a favor. Those obstructing drilling are helpping creat an environment where big oil has purchased patents, ie Mid East countries.

And I am sure if an American company were to purchase certain patents, they would probaly try to use them in a manner that would help national security.(yes most likely for a profit)

This whole argument is stupid, first no one wants Iran to have nuclear, just like no one wants Israel to have nuclear weapons. In all reality, no one should have nuclear weapons, its stupid, insane, and the one and only time they were used should have been the last time they were ever used, if they are ever used again, it will be for destroying the world, because thats the only outcome that will happen.

If Israel and the US didn't have nuclear, there would be a good case for justification in stopping development of Iran's nuclear. But since at this point, the whole thing is stupid, no one really knows whats going on, Bush is a moron, diplomacy wise, it drags on and just causes the price of oil to increase.

And leave North Korea out of it, they are Bush's best buds now.
