Just mounted my ScanGauge and figured I'd share. It was a little scary but all's good. I'm still looking for a bezel to bring it all together so if anyone knows of a good one lt me know.

    Wow!

I dont know if I would call that the best install location I have seen but that is a damn nice install. Good Job!

Kuddos for havin' the sack to cut that panel.

Looks good. How are you going to remove it when you park though? Sitting on the dash like that will overheat the device in some areas of the country. Or are you going to just cover it?

Looks like you cut a rectangular hole in the dash. That's just CRAZY! Well, I guess it's OK if you plan on keeping your car forever, and not ever want to upgrade to a newer or different model.

Personally, I wouldn't cut open my dash, knowing that I'd probably try to sell the car in 5-10 years to buy a PHEV Prius. From the potential buyer pool, I would be eliminating those who have no use for or don't want that extra device in the car. Also, most similarly-sized electronic devices these days don't last more than a few years. A lot of people will want to upgrade, or simply replace a broken device. And I'll bet that in 4-5 years the next ScanGauge will have a different size and shape, requiring a different shape cutout.

I'm thinking of a small hood for it. If I could get a bezel for it I might be able to make it tilt which would take care of the small glare from the windshield. Didn't think of an overheating problem. I don't park it without my trusty retractable sunshade front and back so hopefully it'll be ok. What a crappy lesson this could turn out to be.

I wanted to put it in the center console in the flip down tray cover, mounted on the lid so it flips down out of the way when the compartment's open and recessed so it's flush when closed. After looking around I realized every other car I've driven has you look through the steering wheel to read your gauges. I stuck it on to see how it looks and it felt natural. I don't have to take my eyes off the road much or look around the cabin to find it.

A little cumbersome to program in that position but once it's all set up, shouldn't be hard to manipulate.

It's only pushed in snug so if I want to take it out I can without taking the dash apart.

Before I started I called the dealer to see what the damage whould be for this, $190.95+tax. That made me think about it a little more. That's pretty much all I thought about the whole time, $200, $200, did I cut that too much, $200.

On my way home from work I took a good look at that area and thought that it was a really good location for the SG. Its out of the way, its in line of sight, and you can easily get to it to change the screen when needed. I'm tempted to do the same installation but I don't know if I want a permanently mounted SG at the moment. I might stick with some Velcro to mount it at that location for now. Again nice work jammin012!

Now I keep thinking of better and cleaner ways to do it.

I have mine in about the same place (just sitting on the steering column), and think it works well. Since it's facing up you will probably need a visor to cut glare. Nice work!

That's where I put mine, the velcro adhesive lasted a couple months before it wouldn't stick anymore. I put a lightweight rectangular plastic doodad on top the steering wheel cowl and sat it on top of that, the sticky on back of SG is just enough to keep it from sliding off. I've seen other instances where people cut a wood piece to the shape of the steering wheel cowl and paint it black, and stick the SG to that. A good solution if you are a little more industrious and don't want to cut your dash. Sun IS a problem here, the SG display will be almost unreadable if in the sun on a hot day, so put a window shade.

Me too! I have the wire tie wrapped on looms up to that area and it just sits on top of the steering wheel column. Stays put from the wire connected. It gets disconnected and put away when I park so it doesn't get hi-jacked or sun beat.

That install looks really good. Put some tiny trim around the hole though.Trim it up like a picture frame. Maybe in metal?

    Wow,

That's an excellent install. I chose the CD tray below the radio more for security than anything else. I can flip the door up when I'm parked and its hidden.

I also just installed the EV mod tonight.

Nice! I'll have to think of where to install it. Is there data the Scanguage supplies that CANVIEW won't? I will want to put at least one of these in.
