I'm on the list for a new Prius. I ordered a #6 Touring.

1.) The price difference of the standard Prius and the Touring Prius is very small, like $600 or something. Now I'm wondering if the Touring is worth that $600.

2.) While I was test driving, the center console lid was very easy to push down with my arm resting on it, producing this very annoying rattle. Is this on every Prius, or just the one I test drove?

    Thanks

I have no such rattle. I'm guessing that the lid needs adjusted on that particular steed.

Maybe the one you test-drove had a loose latch on the center console lid.

When I close the center console lid in my Prius, it snaps shut with a nice tight CLICK and there is no rattling. I'd say I rest my arm on it 90% of the time I'm driving the car. :)

Yea I have no problems with the armrest. I recently purchased my prius, in response to whether the touring option is worth it, I think yes (after driving base models and now my own). I think if you are worried about paying an extra 600, I don't think package #6 is the right one for you, isn't that the most expensive one (like 4k over all other models). I think the best buy for the money is package #2 touring, although I am biased for it is the one I bought. Whatever you choose, choose more mpg!

I wanted a Touring Package 2 and couldn't get one. All the Touring models were 5s and 6s.

Yea thats what I thought, even when the guy at the dealership said he put in an order for the package 2 touring edition, I was nervous because I never came across that package for touring models in my research, not even on the toyota website. To be honest I didnt believe it until i was driving it and checking out the features, like back up camera, wheels, etc.

Check carefully what you get extra with the touring. Most consider it to be around $200-400 extra once all options included are considered. That gives you better quality tires, 16" wheels, slightly stiffer suspension, and a larger rear spoiler.
The downside is it gets slightly poorer mileage. Not enough to really worry about though, unless you are competing in mileage contests. ;)

Seriously??? I backed down to a Base becasue I didn't see a Touring #2 on the Toyota website for my region. I wanted handling but didn't want to pay thousands for crap options.

Yea. I know what you mean, like paying an extra 4500 dollars for navigation and leather seats, no thanks. I think it came out to be around 800 dollars more.

I know my way to and from work, I've been backing up for years w/o a camera and leather seats aren't a good thing in Florida.

It depends what is important to you. The Touring edition handles much better at speed than the standard edition, but you sacrifice some MPG. To me it was worth that sacrifice because of the pleasure provided by the sport suspension etc.

Is it true the suspension parts can be transferred to make a normal Prius handle like a touring? I know the tires and spoiler would be different, but are those three things the only differences?

And one negative I have read about the touring, at least in Canada, is that tires are a very unusual size and finding them is near impossibile.

Can the Touring still average around 50MPG?

I was hesitant about ordering a #6 Touring because the salesman said that they aren't as popular in as the standard #6.
