Had hernia surgery yet? Or a vasectomy? Now that's painful.

    10 weeks later?

I had a colon resection 5 years ago. That was a breeze compared to this.

    Let me repeat. Owww. Owww.

Strange ... I didn't have much pain after my vasectomy.

Lucky you. I'll spare you the gory details, but it was days before I could walk straight, and I passed out several times just standing up. Uhh...perhaps I should rephrase that. I mean whenever I got up to go...oh, skip it. :p

Ice was my best friend. Speaking of which, have you tried any on your shoulder?

Did they do yours with a piece of string tied to a door knob? That could be the difference. :D

I've got an ice pack on my shoulder now. It helps a tad. I hadn't thought of the getting up to go issue with a vasectomey
    .

The problem is physical therapy. If I want a useful arm I need toi go to therapy and keep it moving to avoid something called frozen shoulder. I just never expected this to go on for 10 weeks. But then NO ONE EVER EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION to be working in your shoulder joint.

In the end drugs ARE the answer.

Try the ice directly on your skin, if you can stand it, for about 10 minutes. Wait until your shoulder warms up again, and then try a heating pad for another 10 minutes. Don't use the heating pad if there's any swelling. Try this routine several times a day, and especially after therapy. I've found with sports injuries that increased blood flow is the key to healing. The drugs I've been given affected my head so badly I'd rather feel the pain. Yeah, so maybe I haven't tried the right drugs yet.

I nearly fell asleep during my vasectomy. The real pain was two days later during a, uh, "climatic" moment with my wife. The doctor forgot to tell me that we should wait a week before, well you know what...

    Just wait

Just wait until you tear the scar tissue that forms after the surgery.

About 24 summers ago I think I tore my rotator cuff throwing a very wet softball in from the outfield.

I should have gone to the doctor to have it looked at and treated, whether by exercise or surgery as necessary.

But I didn't, and I wish I did. Ever since then, I "throw like a girl" (as they say ... sorry for repeating it).

Depending upon what all needs to be done Rotator cuff surgery is notoriously painful. Some surgeons actually install a morphine pump that infuses directly into the surgical site short term. Most use long acting anesthetic...but that's still only going to buy you about 12 hours of pain relief...

So hang in there, fight through the pain for the sake of rehab. It's good to have a working should.

It's not surgery I'd recommend. 10 weeks after surgery I wish I could throw like a girl or maybe even touch the top of my head.

You're an MD so you know what it's about. My Primary Care guy needs a little educating on the pain factor. At the 4 week mark I developed a blood clot in my arm so now I'm on Coumadin - no asprin, ibuprofen or alcohol allowed. I'd appreciate it if you could mail me some Vicodin. everybody I work with seems to have some but me. (insert self pity smiley)

I've had both shoulders done for cuff repair but also with sub Acromiom/Clavicle decompression, to relive tendon pain.

Took about 6 month to get normal, the best exercise was full range movement in a warm pool.

10 years on pain is retuning but this time I an going with exercise.

Check out Pete Egoscue, his method is worth a good look at.

    Regards and good luck.

Thanks Jon it's nice to hear there will be an end in sight. I've got the pool but it'll be cold before I'm ready for it.

I had at AC decompression and a Mumford procedure too(cut off the tip of the clavicle)

I can't imagine having both shoulders done.

Was the shoulder injured that you had to have surgery on it? Both need surgery?
