Yea! Chinese Egg Custard Tart it is (or was ... I just finished eating the one in the picture).

Now what was its country of origin? (Don't say China.)

ummm... China? I'm thinking Italy, but that's 100% guess with no support of knowledge or deduction.

[edit] Now I'm actually thinking about it... I'm thinking Imperial Britain or another nation that had sea-faring contact with China back in the day.

No, not Switzerland nor Austria nor Italy.

Hint: The Chinese Egg Custard Tart is a Southern China concoction.

Your thinking is good. Think colonizers of Southern China.

Spain and Portugal had naval power, and the cuisine to match. I don't know my world history well enough for such an apparently easy hint though, and at this point I feel bad for just guessing through all of Europe. :D

A winner! Give this guy a Chinese Egg Custard Tart!

The Chinese Egg Custard Tart is frequently and incorrectly attributed to Britain.

Even in yesterday's New York Times article on Chinese food in Flushing, Queens, New York, it was wrongly described as a rare example of British culinary influence (see photo #15 in link below):

    http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2008/07/29/dining/Flushing_Map.pdf

But it is Portuguese in origin. In fact, if you go to Hong Kong -- a former British colony -- you can see signs in bakery windows describing it as a "Portuguese Egg Tart".

    Your turn Ichabod.

Ok, I have to do a quick one because I have to leave the office! Fill in the blanks:

Arise, fair ____, and kill the ____ ____, who is already ____ and ____ with ____

p.s. if you know it, you know it... verify your own answer after the fact, and don't repost if you're wrong. I might not be back on to award the prize until tomorrow. ;)

“Arise, fair maiden, and kill the envious moon, who is already sick and pale with grief.

    (Just a little R&J)

Who sang "Life is like an hourglass glued to the table"?

Ah good, we do have someone who's literate here on Priuschat! Sorry for the delay coming back... Perryma, you missed one word. Think through the monologue from the beginning and I think you'll see that in context it's easy to remember which you got wrong.... actually, it's pretty easy to spot even out of context if you think "opposites." :)

Wow. I thought this one would be answered right away.

Anna Nalick, from the song Breathe (2 am). [Actually, I think technically it's "life's like an hourglass ...."]
