I took my Prius to Orcas Island off the State of Washington Coast for the last week of July. Car did fine, except for some minor high-centering on some backroads. I was a bit worried about driving it onto the Washington State Ferries, --- thinking I might get some scrapes or other body work woes, but no problems.

I wish I could say the same about MY BODY. Went kayaking and then I tried to do a bit of "surfing" while splashing about with the Orcas and managed to scrape myself up pretty good on the sand and rocks....OUCHHHH. Not as bad as a battle with coral, but no fun and not pretty....Ah, well....my husband swore "for better or worse (I think))))"

But, I am off again for two days to the LOST COAST....for those in the know...you know where of I speak....for those who don't, well, have some blueberry pancakes.....Hopefully I will stay out of trouble...

Anyway, we will see how the Prius likes Mr. Roosevelt's Elk....

    Repeat after me:

The Prius is not a Mountain Bike. The Prius is not a Mountain Bike.

Re: Lost Coast - In Northern CA redwood country or a different Lost Coast? If it is the one in Northern CA, you might not want to take the Prius down that road. If you do, be careful.

Have a safe trip and a safe Prius. :)

Two days in the King Range National Conservation Area or two days away from home?
    Either way . . . NOT ENOUGH TIME!!!!! :(

If you like wilderness camping with Roosevelt Elk on the California coast, you may someday wish to check out Gold Bluffs Beach environmental camp sites.
It is part of the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park.
It's also only about 60 miles from the Oregon border rather than about 200 to Lost Coast. ;)

Both the times I stayed there, I was the only person :D - three nights in early spring and two nights mid-summer.
The camp site is between the bluffs and the ocean.
I could hear the roar of the surf all night . . . very relaxing.
Great day hikes from the camp.

I have friends and relatives out here .....and I only very limited time off work...returning home tommorrow.

The Prius did well,,,,I appreciated the B mode for a large part of the drive out here,.....For those who know, it is steep, one-lane and dirt...sorta..., but I would have been happier with first or second gear in my old Corolla.

Spent a lot of time at the mouth of the Mattole today getting my teeth cleaned by the ever-present wind and blowing sand.

Surprised I was able to get online tonight, but hey, these backwoods growers need something to spend their money on. :p

I have a premonition that next year you might be posting about taking the Prius on the Rubicon.

Think how much better economic forecasts would look if all industries were included.
