if you want to know more about our bush f**ups... or if you just feel like kicking your computer and want a good reason...read this

Part One: Starting Up -- chicagotribune.com

    *edit*

ahhh hell, was just going to let it go... but keep in mind, gas was less than a BUCK a gallon when this program was started... so we cant say we didnt know that $4 gas was coming and we cant say we couldnt do nothing about it and we cant say that developing renewable resources quicker faster and harder was a bad idea because after all is said and done, many experts feel that the amount of money spent to buy just the increased consumption of oil over the past 3 years would have more than paid for the development of alternative energies that would now be creating a significant portion of our energy needs while keeping american dollars in the united states

now we all know where that extra 150 billion went right??

remember... we had a plan started in 1993, initial product development in 2000... so exactly what did a voter screwup in Florida cost us?? what was the true cost of that election?? not too hard to figure out where Gore would have gone with this project...

*sigh*...never should have got started on this....

Or are we going to pass the baton to Spectra (despite his questionable tactics)?

Ah ha! I've got it! DaveinOlyWA's question is: What is one of Bill O'Rielly's favorite words that he would use to discribe the post? And just so I don't take away a newbie's turn, as graciouly sugested by DaveinOlyWA, I'll post the answer. Bloviating! Actually, I do it myself on occasion. It really is cathartic to have some place to vent your frustations on occasion. Happy venting.:yell:

ok i guess i dropped the ball here... ok gee... pressure pressure...
cant think of anything... only easy ones

what is the geographical center of the contiguous US?

what is the northernmost state capital of the same ?

then again... ok... how about this....

what are the two states to have been admitted to the union at the same time?

**hint** they were admitted during the busiest month in US history...busiest for adding states that is.

Well, as I recall there were thirteen states created on the same day, but I suppose they ratified something or other on different days.

I know all the "big sky" territories were granted statehood around the same time, just before 1900 (Montana, Nebraska, Idaho, Wyoming, etc.) I also know that Dakota Territory was split into North and South and so that's what I'll guess. The Dakotas.

    Good hint by the way...

And so a New Zealander knows more about U.S. history than most citizens of the U.S. Says something very unflattering about us.

Perhaps not as unflatering as someone, so anxious to turn a single resposnse, by an individual, from outside the county, knowledgable about U.S. history, into a chance to put down the U.S. Samiam. I sincerely congratulate you and while I had thought of the Dakotas, I did not know the background that you knew and was not even sure enough to make a guess. So, definitely my hat's off to you. I just don't see the quantum leap Daniel makes at a chance to dis the U.S. Now J-walking on the Tonight Show. That's unflattering.

Goodness, didn't mean to raise a fuss! (or make my personal history a point of discussion)! Boo and Moxie are correct. I was born in SoCal and lived a good chunk of my life in New Mexico. That doesn't mean that Daniel's point is totally without merit however.

    But we digress!!

Here's the next question. We all know that Thos. Nast popularised the the use of the donkey and elephant as mascots of the Democratic and Republican parties (don't we?) in the famous cartoon below.

Here's the question though -- why had the nice person previously been associated with the Democratic party? (and extra points if you can tell us the slogan associated with it)

No fuss intended Sam! I didn't feel that your post made us look as nearly as nearly unflatering as what I see and hear on J-Walking. You may not get it in New Zealand. Jay Leno asks pedestrians in Ca questions about the U.S. that you would think everyone should know, and the answers given by U.S. citizens, college students and teachers, etc., are more than unflatering, they're downright embarrasing.

Dang, did I kill it again?
The answer goes back to Andrew Jackson being derided as an jackass for his populist roots. He wound up adopting the donky as his symbol with the slogan "let the people rule". The democratic party in a nutshell.

OK here's another election oriented one.

What country first granted women's sufferage and when?

Moxiequz wins - New Zealand was the first country to give women voting rights, back in 1893. Kate Sheppard, a leader of the sufferage movement is on our $10 note. That same year Elizabeth Yates was elected mayor of Onehunga, the first woman mayor elected anywhere.

    Your turn MQ

Okelee dokelee! Sorry for the delay. It's been 134 degrees in the shade here and my brain decided to issue a general halt-work order and go swimming. I think it should be back in a couple more days. That said, I really don't think it would mind if we just carried on without it for the time being.

How many definite articles are in the English language and what are they?

I know that one. It's funny some of the obscure things you remember from english class. Plus it was a question on "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader", which by the way, who's title contains on. But I'll pass on the answer and let someone else have a shot at it.
    Go for it.
