I hope I don't have to wait for 8 years and 100K miles later to find out that my HV battery is dead. Better yet, in a few years ....hopefully the price of an HV battery would be a lot less.

The story unfolds.... The problem was a clogged air intake tube. A rag from an oil change mechanic ended up in the air intake. This caused a partial blockage in the induction system not allowing the engine to develop high enough rpms to recharge the HV batteries when underway. Rag removed, engine develops full power, no charging issues. The hard part was realizing that it was a partial blockage not enough to notice a major decrease in power unless driving at high enough power demand modes long enough to deplete the partially recharging batteries.

    Believe it or not!!

Wow, now that is a first. Glad it wasn't anything more serious, but I'd sure like a huge apology from the service dept. that let that happen.

Unbelievable; another reason to DIY oil changes.

It is not reasonable to expect the price of new traction batteries sold as spare parts to decrease substantially. Toyota is the only supplier of these custom batteries...what is the incentive for them to reduce the price?

Toyota has put forth the marketing message that the battery will "last for the life of the car", whatever that means. If you truly believe that, then the price of a replacement traction battery is irrelevant. (I've had two batteries replaced - on my 2001 and HiHy - so I am skeptical of that message.)

Toyota wants to sell new cars, not make it easy to keep old cars on the road...

Was that oil change done at a dealer, or at some kwicky loob place?
