Ford swears off SUVs, even if gas prices drop.

" Ford Motor Co's (F.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) plan to overhaul its North American operations to produce more cars remains unchanged amid recent declines in gas prices, a top executive said on Tuesday.

Ford has been restructuring in North America to meet increased demand for passenger cars and a drop in demand for larger trucks and SUVs that once were huge sources of profit for the automaker."

I don't understand what is taking them (Ford) so long to get their Fusion Hybrid into production. They might be able to sell a few of those, assuming they could price it right.

    What would that change?

Taurus has become a CUV, not all that different from a SUV in terms of bulk and a thrist for gas.

Ford should not say it quite like that. The F150 is still a huge seller for Ford and very profitable. Its the standard for pickups and even at bargain basement prices Ford makes money on them. The main problem is they have too much production which they need to scale back fast.

Ford should do some quick revamps on its vehicles like GM is going with its 'xfi' versions and get the Ford Fusion hybrid out. Its really late!

Originally, the Ford Fusion Hybrid was supposed to be a 2008 model. Now according to the article that I posted the link above (What Ford will look like in 2010) it will be a 2010 model.

Someone recently compared the Big 3 to an oil tanker at sea - even when it makes a course correction, it takes miles before you start to see the result.

I think Ford will soon make a turnaround.
As for the GM XFI versions, those are a joke. GM figured out how to sell a Manual transmission car at the price of an Automatic by advertising that its more fuel efficient.
