New World Record - 1619 miles per tank

    Hello all,

    I would like to report that a Japanese Prius driver, Perl_Pri_315@Ibaragi, achived 1,619 miles/tank (2,605 km). :eek:
    The computer mileage was 106.6 mpg (45.3 km/L).

    The previous world record was 1602 miles/tank.

    Please note that Japanese Prius tank has no bladder and can hold up to about 15.9 US gallons, 60 liters.

    With 15.9 gallons to play with at the stated consumption rate, it looks like a 1,700 mile tank is achievable.

    Someone needs to tell these people to quit foolin' around and focus.

    WOW...seems to me that he must have been towed by a RICHSHAW around town, or was airlifted up to the highest point in Japan and coasted down and then airlifted again and coasted down. However he did it..that's great, wish they would have that same kind of gas tank configuration here in the US ...without that damn bladder.

    Hi FWD,

    No the Japanese use KM/Liter. 45.3 KM/Liter would be 2.21 Liters/100KM. Here is the double check. 60 Liters / 2.21 Liters / 100 KM is 2715 km, or 1683 miles. Which is more (and thus possible) than 1619 miles, the reported achievement.

    But they get to pump 60 litres into the 45 litre tank!! We're stuck with 40 litres (some people even less than that!)

    It was done by a special challenge during his summer vacation.
    He selected 405 km challenge course and drove there six and a half days.

    His technique is very normal hypermiler's one...
    - just pulse&glide. The average speed was 34 km/h (21 mph).
    - no A/C at all. maybe, he consumed one gallon of mineral water per day. :)
    - never drove above 41 mph.

    Please not his MFD shows 36C(97F) outside driving without A/C. :eek:

    This kind of sport should be added to Olympic. If they have to pick either summer or winter Olympic, the better pick would be summer.
