Those of you with factory Navigation Ver7.1 know that it got rid of the original "I Agree" screen for the Warning screen that times out automatically, before going to the MAP display.
Neat, but I've always felt the timeout feature takes way too long. Kind of annoying.
Well, I just discovered that if you push the MAP button on the steering wheel twice, in rapid succession, the system will go to the MAP screen without any wait !!!

    Give it a try.

It works ..... you still see the screen .... but only for a fraction of a second. Nice find. :)

That is a good find. It seems like all too frequently I turn on the map when I can't quite read the street name and I'm closing in on it fast. The extra delay usually guarantees I'll drive by the street before the map pulls up. :)

Thanks... I sort of stumbled on to this some time ago, when I thought I pressed something to make it go away faster than the normal wait, but then I wasn't sure what I did so I figured I was just distracted so the ~ 5 seconds or so seemed shorter.

    But definitely good to know.

Personally, I always wondered why people were so irritated by the I Agree screen. It is one immediate button press and gone. With the timed screen, you HAD to wait the ~5 seconds or so... until knowing this little gem. But I digress.

I was irritated by the screen because:

    1. It was basically a CYA statement that I'm sure was conceived by lawyers. I felt that the statement(s) in the NAV manual were sufficient. If they really felt that they needed it on screen, then having it the very first time you pushed the Map button would have been fine, but not every fricken time.

    2. It was distracting to deal with when moving, making it more dangerous IMO to use the map. A lot of times I only use the Nav to check for an upcoming street without using guidance.

    3. Extra fingerprints on the screen.

    4. Location of the "I Agree" corresponds to the Consumption screen "Reset" button. I accidentally reset a couple of times when I got in the habit of hitting "I Agree".

Can you tell I was irritated? :D

    I am actually fuming!

Just spent good $$$ to upgrade my 2006's DVD, which was simply pathetic in terms of accuracy (my phone's GPS is far more accurate and makes better suggestions, as does the older GPS in my other car.)

Installed it, but now the Lockpick I used to allow Navigation input override, doesn't work!

Frick you, Toyota! Not only is this THE WORST navigation system I've seen in any car, but it requires users to hack it and pay extra just to be able to use it.

As to safety, does anyone sane really think, that forcing drivers to fiddle with small cell phone screens and buttons while driving, is safer, than punching the necessary number on a screen, which allows one to still have the road in view?! Wish someone who crashed because they couldn't punch 911 on their screen, would sue Toyota and get rid of this idiot nanny state!

This would be a major roadblock to my ever considering another Toyota product. Phew!

If you think this Nav is bad, you haven't seen anything. My wife's Mazda CX-9 has the worst navigation ever. Incredibly outdated maps (good luck trying to find an update) and horrible directions. The absolute worst!
