Valvematic does not replace VVTi, it works with VVTi together.

    Toyota reveals Valvematic technology

it replaces current vvti system they are using, with completly new, much more advanced system for continious controlling timing and lift (before it was just timing, and it had set positions)... so more corectly, it is continious VVTLi without throttle valve that they call valvematic...

Ahh... ok. I thought MMT (multi-mode transmission) was a CVT. Oops. Didn't know Toyota made an SMG.

they have been selling them in Europe for 5-6 years now... But they have been using it as cheaper alternative to AT, not as better AT.

ic. And the Auris is using the 1ZR I presume? How is that engine? Would it be a good fit you think for the new Prius?

its ok.. I drove 1ZR in Auris and 2ZR in Yaris (TS)... both are fine, compared to ZZ engines, both are A LOT more refined, more free revving.

I really do think that 2ZR is better fit for Prius because it will spend less fuel at high speeds - in Europe, our highway limits are at 85 mph but they will let you go as fast as 95/100mph before stopping you, so thats where current Prius falls a bit short - for instance my GS350 has similar mileage at those speeds as Prius.

I cant wait to see AR in Rav4 - current AZ is really bad in Rav4 - it is loud, slow at higher speed, truly worse option than D4D, even though it got rated the best compared to petrol competition.

I am excited for all these new petrols coming out.

But then the PSD should allow the 1ZR in the Prius (if it does turn out to be the 1ZR) to achieve better mileage by revving lower than a traditional transmission, no?

wow... the limit in US is 70mph and in Canada 100km/h (except areas where it's extremely flat or have great visibility and is in the middle of nowhere then it's 110km/h).

Should be good. It's arriving in a few months.
