Gee! I just noticed that "Sales rep" is an anogram for "Pleasers". :drum:

    Jim,

Thanks for this excellent post. Most folks have never heard about what the B mode really is, much less how it differs from the D mode in terms of regen.

I'd also like to remind people of Hobbit's excellent write-up of the B mode.

Thanks for the kind words and the link. I was going to provide it, but for some reason I couldn't find the bookmark for Hobbit's site earlier on this computer.

I should have been a little clearer with that. The shift lever setting doesn't change, as Mt View confirms. But the car behaves exactly like it's in B: more drag and higher MG1 and ICE RPM.

Sounds like the traction battery is now taking less charge than before.

I switched from 10% ethonol blend to reg. unleaded and improved MPG approx. 4.8. In Iowa, the "corn" gas, (10% ethonol blend) is the "cheaper grade. But at almost 5 MPG difference, the reg. unleaded is the more economical.

That'll work until Jack Kibbie gets has way. Then you won't know which pump has the E10.

On The Other Hand, E10 reduces emissions and it's an effective engine cleaner.

Just out of curiosity, since I'm not up to specs on E10. What is the net savings of emissions after adding back in any emissions generated in processing the E10 and the additional gallons needed to go the same distance, since you get less mpg with E10. I had read where the U.S. is pumping some $11 billion per year into subsidies for biofuels. And saw on a documentary that, of the roughly 200 biofuel plants in the U.S., none have broken out of the red yet, even after the subsidies. With that in mind, I was just wondering what the net savings, in emissions, are and what it's costing us, and at what point we will see it begin to support it'self. I don't mind paying more for a safer product. I would just like to know what that cost is. I know big oil has subsidies also, but at least knowing what a barrel of oil is going for gives you an idea. Sort of like the gas gauge on the Prius, a rough guesstimate. I have no idea what it's costing us for an equivilent barrel of methanol, since the biofuel industry won't reveal anything about it's profitability or costs. If I switch to Mobil1 or run at a hight tire PSI, or go to a better tire; I know and can weigh the pros and cons and additional cost. I really have no idea about E10 and can not seem to sort through the FUDs and facts, the rhetoric and truths clouded by the extreme positions on either side. An article, comment or post loses credability with me as soon as the poster feels that they have to resort to name calling to make a point. BTW this is an open question and not addressed to any individual. I am truely confused on the pros and cons of E10. :noidea:
