To late. I got my $500 deposit for 2010 Prius 8 month ago in the #1 Toyota dealer in the country. I was told I'm number one on the list and will be the first in New Englang to get one. At the time there was no packages or price available, they will contact me as soon any info will become available to workout all package details. I'm driving my 2008 Yellow Toyota FJ cruiser now and I'm loving it. I'm very confident in Toyota products and I'm sure the 2010 will be no different.:attention:

chances are you will never get it. dealers are notourious for taking thousands of dollars in deposits in hope that most people will change their minds, die, move out of the area and several other reasons. they have nothing to lose and interest on thousands to gain. in a previous business i had almost 40k in unclaimed deposits, and i'm small potatoes.

Seems kind of silly to give your dealer the use of your $500 for over a year on his word that you would get a chance to buy a car.

Sure, use all you want. Completly refundable deposit and number one on the list. I can walk away any time i want, but not realy planing too. If you want to change your thirst on oil you have to start some where. I did my part. I change my home system from oil to gas, and i installed solar panels on my roof. If you want to talk about package on your Prius who cares.

    Ll2k,
Congrats on being Numero Uno. Unfortunately, you will most likely not be the first in the country to get the 2010. With the 2004s, we in the Midwest were constantly complaining that those darned Californians were hogging them all. You will be the first in New England though and as far as driving it down the street, that might be all that matters.

And though it's a little early right now, I expect a full barage of pictures similar to Joe's Diner: smoke and mirrors :: My 2004 Prius

I am on a preference list and my dealer when asked by me if he needs a deposit, said NO, that wasnt their policy. I live in Portland, Oregon where the boat lands. Have every confidence I will be the first :D My dealer is the biggest in Portland and I went through the fleet dept. Yes, I agree, dont need to give them moeny to help make their mortgage payment. Good luck getting it back if another dealer gets the car you want first but good luck anyways.

Anybody done the math on how much oil it takes just to ship these cars from Japan? And it's even further to New England. Yikes! Maybe they're sailed over.

For some reason, all this talk about "being first" sort of reminds me of the golden tickets in Willy Wonka. Don't know why.

I'm thinking most likely the Prius Priority folks will be among the first unless your dealer gets it before a Priority participant. I'm quite sure I'll be among the first in AZ. ;-)

Note - the Prius Priority offer has long since expired.

Re: To late. I got my deposit for 2010 Prius 8 month ago.

There are some people who might get a Prius a little before the OP. There is a group of very dedicated Prius fans who might just get the jump. Some already have orders in specifying colour and package and they will get what they ordered, I bet they do.
I don't know if any are in New England.

Looks like HTMLSpinnr got in before me.

The oil consumed to get the Prius from Japan to the USA is most likely about half of what it would cost to fly that far which would be half of what it would cost to drive that far.

What's with all the bragging on who's first. I'm sure the first 2010 Prius owner is already driving it somewhere in Japan, so calm down and live with it.

I agree. I think most people (except for priuschat fans) would not even know the difference between an 2009 and 2010 anyway.

I remember when the new BMW 1 series came out last year and everyone wanted to be the first on the road to have one. Well they were first and they got raped on price. Now there are dozens of 1 series on the lots collecting dust selling for near invoice prices.

If it was a local dealership that told you that THEY are the largest in the nation

What Toyota dealership in the US is the largest volume leader? - Yahoo! Answers

Where is largest Prius dealer in USA? - Toyota Forums :: Toyota Nation

well, maybe they'd tell you whatever else they thought you want to hear ;)

The deposit should help but it's not a "list". The cars come in when they come in. Back in 96 when the BMW Z3 came out, I had a deposit in to the largest dealer in New England. I was nowhere near the top of the list but the first one to come in was exactly what I ordered, so they called me to come get it. It was pretty cool having almost the only one around for a month or so.

Yea but in 1996 the Z3 was ahead of it's time and there was nothing like it on the road and was a definite head turner. But a 2010 Prius??? Very few people will know it is new model year.

    Is this the new Prius?
I saw one driving around Adelaide. Looks a lot like a Prius, and I thought BMW owners thought Prius was ugly?

umm Florida huh?? ok, i will remember that.

i guess there are some businesses that use deposits as a way of padding their bottom lines. i opt to not do business with them and there are a mountain of alternatives.

when i was waiting on my 2004, my dealer held my $500 deposit for 6½ months. when my car came in, i walked in, wrote a check for the purchase price and part of the paperwork i received was my uncashed deposit check.

now, is that the reason why i got my 2nd Pri from them? maybe...

Doesn't it depend on which color and options come first? I mean, what if the first Prius comes and its white but you ordered some other color?

What's a package 8 anyway? They can break their promise and tell you that b/c there is no package 8 they couldn't keep it.
I am quite sure you'll get one pretty early unless the dealership is really bad, but I wouldn't count on being first.
