I picked up the "Toyota" extended warranty when purchasing my Prius (told them I wouldn't pay more than $990) and saved the difference between the ridiculous $1,100 price quoted but now I notice that there is a $100 deductible. Is that the standard "Toyota" warranty or have I been screwed? Can Toyota Warranties vary from dealer to dealer? I know that the PriusChat warranty is $0 deductible.

What are my rights? Can I legally cancel this if they have created their own Toyota Warranty?:croc:

I think you have up to 60 days to cancel. What you need/want is the Toyota Platinum warranty.

    Santiago,
As efusco said, Toyota Platinum warranty is the highest level (there are several levels) that Toyota offers. It has $0 deductible if repaired with Toyota dealers.
Yes, I think you should cancel it and talk to Troy.

    Santiago,

    1. I wonder whether you got a Toyota extended warranty at all. That $100 deductible business is throwing me off. As far as I know, Toyota doesn't offer an extended warranty with a $100 deductible ... just extended warranties with either a $50 deductible or $0 deductible.

    2. Here's a link to the Toyota Financial Services webpage with the types and MSRP's of the extended warranties offered by Toyota for a new Prius:

    Toyota Financial Services: Home

    3. The Toyota extended warranty offered here for $990 through Troy/WarrantyShack.com/Toyota of Greenfield, MA is for Toyota's longest and most comprehensive warranty -- the Toyota Extra Care Platinum Plan 7 years/100,000 miles/$0 deductible. It has a MSRP of $1850.

    4. Note that Troy offers all of the lesser Toyota extended warranties also, at similarly discounted prices.

    5. If I were you, I would go in person to the dealer immediately to cancel the extended warranty you bought, and don't leave the dealer without a written acknowledgment of the cancellation and, if you can get it, a check or credit card credit for the refund amount. I believe the rule is that if you cancel within 30 days of the day the car was put in service, you will get a full refund. Thereafter, if it's a Toyota extended warranty, the refund will be pro-rated based on the amount of time elapsed.

    6. Then I would wait until a little before the basic warranty runs out at 3 years/36,000 miles, to decide whether you want an extended warranty, and if you do, which one to get in terms of maximum years and miles.

    Good luck.
