Today i was at my Toyota dealership doing the oil change and the tire rotation on my FJ Cruiser. I'm standing outside by service department drive in door and i see the flatbed towing truck driving by me with the heavily camouflage car. He could not drive in inside the service facility to unload it. The service manager told them to unload the car in front of the facility. As curios as I'm i got next to it and realized it looked like Prius prototype. It is bigger in size with bigger rims. I tried to figure out the interior. It looked nice with aluminum accents pisses around but it was full of laptops and electronics and was kind of unfinished in some areas. The service manager talk to the test driver for a wile and when the tire was fixed and left the dealership i ask the manager about the car and the only thing he said, we are going to have some hell of the Prius next year.

I think the "2010" Prius had a flat tire, and I would guess that Toyota wouldn't like a prototype to be on the side of the road changing out a tire, too many chances for pictures, so they have it towed to the nearest dealership and have them change the tire.

You'd think the prototype would be followed by an entire engineering crew and mechanics department.

It makes a lot of sense. Of course Toyota would want take a prototype to a dealership, so the driver could talk to the service manager. Maybe the 2010 Prius will take more quarts of oil, and they are driving from dealership to dealership. Everyone better be on the lookout.

there should be around 300 test cars being driven around world right now... they are all unfinished, they are testing mechanics not interior plastics.

No, they would not have a team of mechanics following the Prius around. Just a couple engineers/techs in the car and maybe one follow up car.

If they had trouble with it they would just take it to the local dealer, since the dealer will have tools that they cannot carry around with them. When they got to the dealer they would probably talk to the service manager.

I is typical for car companies to drive prototype cars around their headquarters as well as for trips around the country. As the OP described they usually camoflage them with vinyl coverings, strange colored tape, etc.

Very believable story to me. And no, I don't believe in Bigfoot.

 I was a little concerned about that myself... I suppose the greatest fear for owners of the 2010 Prius will be having thieves take all their "pisses" off the car.

Oh we are back in primary school again, OK.
I once saw a pack of pre-production Ford utes driving through the hills of Adelaide, I didn't think to take a picture with my camera phone either. We often had pre-production Mitsubishis around as Adelaide was their Australian production base but the Adelaide factory is now closed so all Mitsubishis are imported to Australia now.
Anyone looking for a factory to build electric cars in?

I see preproduction BMWs all the time but it's because I live 10 minutes from the factory....
