Ok, I'm dense. What's the difference between IG-ON or READY? (see below?)

    1. Power on the car to IG-ON or READY. IG-ON will do for this purpose.
    2. Using the Trip/ODO button, set the Trip/ODO display to ODO (not Trip A or Trip B )
    3. Power off the car.
    4. Now power the car to READY (brake on).

    Thanks,
    Jon

If you know that the ODO display was in ODO since your last drive, you can pretty much go straight to step 4 in your quote. The instruction was written that way to confirm that you are in fact in ODO, since it won't work if the ODO is displaying Trip A or Trip B.

READY happens if you press the "POWER" button while pressing the brake. When in READY mode you can shift to "D" and you can drive the car.

IG-ON happens when you press the "POWER" button twice while NOT pressing the brake. When in IG-ON mode all the 12V accessories work, but you can't shift to "D" and drive the car.

I'm not sure if the HV battery is still isolated in IG-ON like it is in ACC or not. I've seen it described both ways here at PriusChat.

Ready is similar to starting the car (and engine) in your typical auto.
Ignition on is similar to the ACC position. (power on without the engine on)

When I first tried this, I kept looking at the main display for the a-b toggle and odo options... then I noticed that all of this was displayed on the dash up by the speedometer. So, keep your eye there for success!

Also, a mistake I made was not going to park (P) after reverse (R).

This worked perfectly! No more beeping... :)

Thx OP. Your instruction worked the 1st time I try on my 08 Prius.

Was following another instruction yesterday and doesn't work and turns out they have missed a little detail

WHILE STILL HOLDING ODO *after* the 10 seconds...

I was under the impression from another instruction every thing has to be done under 6 seconds, including put gear in R then P.

Can someone please explain to me what the seatbelt beep is?

Is it the beep that warns the driver that he is not wearing a seatbelt while the vehicle is in motion? I've disabled it but there are still 3 beeps coming from the car when I power it up.

You're correct. It's the one that keeps beeping and then beeps rapidly after a while. It's different from the "start up" beep. That one you just have to wear your belt before you start the car. It's the same for any vehicle.

What model is this instruction for. I hve a European 2008 version and it didn't work for me. Since I have read somewhere that some models requre to hold the ODO for up to a minute, I tried that also, but all I see when I releas the ODO that the ODO moves to Trip A...

I believe this only works for North American models.

Europeans already have the adjustable seat height feature, so you can't disable the beep. It's all part of some bizarre Japanese logic I suppose...

I must be extremely dense. But I'm frustrated. I've just tried this over and over again, at least 6-7 times, and it just doesn't work in my car. I hold the ODO button, count to 10, 15, 20 ... press the gear to R, then press the P button. Once I release the ODO it just goes to Trip A *every* time. So ... looks like I have to live with that annoying beep.

I thought I read in some thread that the Disable feature itself is disabled in the 08 model.

How I wish we could disable the beep on European models.
Have tried all the variations on PC without success
Maybe I could disconnect the speaker where the beep comes from ?

Just wanted to let everyone know that the procedure for turning off the back-up and seatbelt beeps posted here still works for the 2009 model. :thumb:

    In case anyone cares :)

If you press the Power button ONCE with foot off the brake, you go to ACC and can listen to the radio but not run the windows or mess with NAV. I frequently use this one (and turn the display off) while listening to the radio waiting for my kid(s) to get done with some activity. Note that it will turn OFF in 60 minutes. If your wait is longer than that, you have to push power again. Meant to save the 12V if you try leave it in ACC mode all night :)

Press it TWICE to get Ignition On and you have all function except moving the car. This WILL be pulling power from the big battery and the ICE will start to recharge it if the SOC gets low. So, no, the HV battery is NOT isolated when in IG-ON.

Thank you so much for posting this! The reverse beep in our 2006 prius was driving my family up the wall, now it's oh so silent, though I am considering setting up some sort of beeper outside of the car to warn nearby pedestrians.

The night I fixed this, we took my daughter and her friend out to eat... her friend immediately noticed the lack of reverse beep, and I ended up having to go to her house and fix her mom's beep as well.

    Thanks again!

looks like someone said it did in a few posts earlier than yours. We are discussing if we want to end the beep.
