after a much closer look... it is the access port for the retinal scanner to enter the "Tardus" that just happen to take the shape of a Prius. 10,000,000 BC anyone?

    This is really evil.

I mean, its like watching a strip tease dancer slowly revealing her navel or a birthmark.

    What's next? The exhaust pipe?

    see below

good point... but why open/close and no pictogram suggesting what it's for (other than it might give the whole game away if they did show it)

Is it just me or do the "Open" and "Close" words look like they were photoshopped in and not actually printed on the button.

Sunroof/Moonroof, or auto open/close hatch. Has to be one of the two...

Its for the weapons bay doors where new Prius owners will be welcomed to an assortment of anti-SUV munitions, ranging from 50-caliber machine guns to EM emitters (also useful for shutting down those are a cell phone while driving).... of course it all depends what package you get.

Personally, I hope it's to open the Plug-in access door. I don't want a sunroof, and I can open my hatch just fine, thanks.

I think it has to be something on the inside of the car since it doesn't appear to be very "weatherproof" -- I don't think it is a cover for the plug-in since that would be on the outside (we hope). It appears from the picture that it slides in at the bottom (slot visible on right). I can't see anything in the middle of the button that would lead me to believe it pushes in at the top therefore popping out or up from the bottom. I have no better guesses than what has already been posted.

Wait a minute -- it is probably for the ram-air induction system!

Since it is viral marketing. It must be a picture that relates to a new feature. So, it is not the new switch for the glove box. I also don't think it is for a sunroof, because that is not such a big deal. Plus it would screw up the fuel economy.

It also looks like a manual type of latch. As noted earlier, I think it flips up when you push open. I dont think you can push close until after you have pushed open and it flips up.

I am betting it is the button on the cover to the plug in port. It is a manual latch mechanism that allows for a secure seal, since there is bound to be a rubber seal around the port to prevent moisture from entering.

Just think about it. When they come back in 3 months and tell us what we were seeing in the photos, it would be silly for the button to be for the rear hatch, or even the sunroof. It has to be something important like the plug-in port.

    IMHO

How about a 12V outlet in the cargo area (or somewhere else)? You would push "Open" and the "Close" portion would pivot out revealing the outlet (we have the same type of setup in our Audi). Pushing "Close" would do the obvious...

its some kind of compartment - Rav4 has it for above glove box and RX has it for between seats compartments... due to the color, i will guess it is for above head sun glasses compartment... do I win an prize for getting it right? maybe real picture of prius - both inside and out, 1000000x1000000 px resolution? thanks

    :)

Well, whatever the heck it is, I bet the people at Toyota are having a great time reading our responses. ;)

My vote is for a sunroof. I don't really enjoy the tiny photo hints - what if we paid for the car the same way? " I will give you something for the car eventually and here is a clue..."

On the left side, the flat plane is in the background and the "push button" is in the foreground, yet on the right side, the "push button" is in the background and the flat plane is in the foreground. Plus, the plastic looks like something I would see on the interior of an airplane (and the font!), not in a Toyota.

Are you sure you didn't confuse this photo with something that GM designed?

(the red label and arrows at the bottom says "photoshop?")
