I saw an oval shapped sticker on a prius that said something like Official Green Vehicle. I think it was for a discount toll program, but I couldn't tell. It was on the driver's side rear bumper on the back and side.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? What is it?

    Was it one of these?

YES!!! And, I see it's really for the LIE. While I don't travel on the LIE - who would by choice - I may just get one because it's cool. I need to get my Green Pass for ezpass while I'm at it.

    Thanks!

That's an HOV lane sticker for the Long Island Expressway. You got one of those on your Prius, you can drive in the HOV lane on the LIE when you are alone in the car.

You get them by calling the NYS Department of Transportation at 1-800-697-0558.

If you want to get discount tolls on the NYS Thruway, you have to get a green EZPass tag. You have to go to the New York State Thruway Authority for that: New York State Thruway Authority: E-ZPass : Green Pass Discount Plan

    Hope this helps!

Yep, that sticker will allow hybrid vehicles to ride in the HOV lanes anywhere there are some in NY State.

Also... in regards to Green Pass EZ Pass tags, be aware, that the roads you travel most, will determine which Green Pass you need.

There is a Green Pass offered by the New York State Thruway Authority which works and offers discounts on 87, the Tappan Zee and northward, and there is also a Green Pass offered by the New York Bridge and Tunnel Authority, which works and offers discounts south of the Tappan Zee, but not including the Tappan Zee and 87.

    It IS confusing.

Also, if you travel both on Thruway owned real estate as well as Bridge and Tunnel real estate, then you need two separate accounts and two separate tags. ALSO, the discount only applies to off-peak hours!

Personally, I decided to stick with the regular white Thruway one that works everywhere, and still gives me a fairly good discount.

    Hi Dave,

I believe you can get it all on one beautiful green colored, Green Pass tag:

    1. Thruway Green Pass discounts,

    2. Bridge & Tunnel Green Pass discounts, and

    3. Regular EZ Pass discounts.

Just fill out the EZ Pass application and check off the boxes that say you want the Thruway Green Pass discount and the Bridge & Tunnel Green Pass discount. Then send it in together with a copy of your Prius registration.

Those Clean Pass stickers are worth getting. When you're on the LIE, they can save you a lot of time.

But personally, I don't like the way they look -- although they look A LOT better than the California HOV lane stickers. So I just keep them in my glove department, and tape them on my car with double sided scotch tape when I know that I'm going to want to be driving in the HOV lane on the LIE.

I'd love to believe that, but I don't see how that can happen as both "authorities" view themselves as completely separate entities (you can't even "transfer" from one to another if you wanted).

Has anyone done this? I just don't see how one ezpass can be registered with two agencies.
